Cancellation Statement
It is with intense disappointment that we announce that My Chemical Romance will not be coming to Australia to play Download.
MCR have released the following statement today:
“To our dearest friends –
It is with heavy hearts that we have decided to postpone our performances in Australia and New Zealand. We felt this was the right decision for our fans, our band, our crew, and our families given the current global situation. We apologize to our fans, but please know that we didn’t come to this decision lightly. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to being with you all again as soon as we can. In the meantime, please be good to each other.” My Chemical Romance
Given that this announcement has come barely 7 days prior to Download Australia we will not be able to secure an alternative headliner as there is insufficient time to secure visas and arrange the other relevant logistics that are required prior to the festival.
As we are unable to deliver a complete line-up to meet the standard that Download fans both expect and deserve, we have very reluctantly made the decision to cancel Download Australia 2020.
The Download team has been working around the clock to create an unforgettable experience for heavy music fans and we are devastated not to be able to deliver this show to Australian Downloaders as planned.
We are currently working with both My Chemical Romance and Deftones to schedule separate headline shows in Australia in 2020 and will update you all as soon as we have these.
We are also working with a number of artists who have official Download side shows scheduled, to add headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne next week, stay tuned for these dates.
All ticket purchasers to the Download Melbourne and Sydney 2020 events will receive a full refund including booking and payment processing fees.
We appreciate that the decision to cancel Download Australia will cause huge disappointment and may create major difficulty for ticket holders, for which we sincerely apologise.

Our Predicted/Potential Bands
Rammstein - Having released a new album earlier this year, we haven't seen the band in Australia since Big Day Out 2011 and if they may need to test the waters to see who would come to a show again (stupid I know) but a music festival would be the best way to test that theory (with a few sideshows in other cities maybe)
System of a Down - It'll be 8 years since they were last in Australia headlining Soundwave 2012 and they're headlining the UK's Download Festival, some of those bands drip into our lineup so maybe, just maybe, they'll be one of the headliners.
Machine Head - With a new lineup and a new song behind them, they could bring all of the aforementioned to Australia for the festival right!? Just don't book dope too with all of that recent drama Robb got himself in hahaha
Beartooth - Soooo when I ran into Caleb Shomo after the band's headline show in Brisbane he said they were in talks for coming back for Download Festival. I believe everything that man says so I'm adding them to the list purely on that statement.
Disturbed - There are whispers of a headline tour getting around, but with nothing being announced yet, I reckon it's because they're actually on Download. They've had their latest album out for over a year now so they're well overdue.
Bad Wolves - They'll have their new album N.A.T.I.O.N. out by the time DL rolls around next year and the fans who didn't want to pay for a ticket to see them supporting Nickelback can get one to see them performing at a festival instead.
Steel Panther - They've got a new album out and have been frequenting Australia more often than usual, so what about a quick trip as part of a Music Festival? Surely that'd be easy!?
Light The Torch - We need these guys on the lineup for two reasons. 1: We haven't seen Howard Jones' band in Australia yet and 2: We NEED to see him do a cameo on stage with his former KSE bandmates for their song 'The Signal Fire' please and thank you!
Bring Me The Horizon - Sure they did an East Coast Tour but that was back in April and surely they could fit in a couple of shows on DL to prove to the old metal elitists (yes you!) that they can put on one hell of a show too!
Killer Be Killed - BUT ONLY IF ALL OF THEIR SIDE BANDS AREN'T TOURING AT THE SAME TIME. They've been working on a new album for yonks and what better way to showcase that music than at Download. I've checked out their side bands schedules (e.g. Soulfly, Mastodon, The Black Queen + Cavalera Conspiracy) and none of them have shows booked in yet....
Rob Zombie - It's been fucking ages since we last saw Zombie and his merry band down under. They'd be a great addition to the lineup.
SKYND - Seriously, this band need to make it to Australia and after supporting Rob Zombie on his tour, you know they'd be a perfect fit for the DL crowd, especially with their connections to Australia via their song 'Katherine Knight'
Outright - If these Melbourne hardcore punks aren't on the lineup, we riot!
Of Mice & Men - While it's highly unlikely a band who played at the very first Download Festival in Melbourne back in 2018 would come back for second helping two years later, drummer Valentino Arteaga told us in a recent interview "we’re in the works on solidifying either festivals or headlining shows" in Australia in 2020. Festivals, as in plural ;)
Periphery - They usually tour right after an album has dropped but here we are nearing the end of the year with no tour yet. Could be because they've signed on for Download!?
HELLYEAH - They're touring with Stone Sour's Roy Mayorga in place of Vinnie Paul and frontman Chad Gray told us they want to come back to Australia to honour their fallen comrade and play tracks from their new album, so what better way than on Download Festival
Whitechapel - New album. No tour for a few years. It's a huge probability!
Neck Deep - Every great lineup needs a healthy dose of pop punk and these guys would be PERFECT for it.
BABYMETAL - They made their Aussie debut at Good Things Festival 2018 and with no more visits back down under since, we could see them playing another festival slot, especially with a new album under their belts.
Sleeping With Sirens - Their latest album is a great return to form melodic-metalcore banger so we need to hear some of those songs in a live setting and surely they'd fit the mould for DL's "core" bands?

Lamb of God/Kreator - Both bands will head off across Europe from March 31st. That'll be plenty of time to smash out a couple of shows down under before jet setting over!
Deftones - They were last here touring with Karnivool back in 2016 and don't have any shows announced between November 2 and June 5th. That's a possibility!
Bury Tomorrow - Who doesn't want to belt out 'Black Flame' in Australia? If you answered me, then you're obviously wrong!
Raised Fist - Their new album is on the way very soon and they last toured Australia in 2016 so they're well overdue for a tour here. Bring the commander back for Download!
Stand Atlantic - Aussie pop punk band taking over the world? What's not to love! Especially now they're working on album #2!
Trophy Eyes - Talking about pop punk, these guys have played a few tours for their latest album The American Dream and festivals all year long, what's another one to the list?
The Agonist - They've also got a new album under their belts so surely they'd get a run.
Escape The Fate - They were last here doing an anniversary tour in 2018, that's long enough between drinks for a tour right?
LOSER - We need more 90's alt-rock revival in our lives and these upcomers would be a sick addition for those who don't like metal.
Weezer and/or Fall Out Boy - They're doing that Hella Mega Tour with Green Day but GD are playing a show in Hong Kong on their own on March 20th with FoB and Weezer free!? So maybe they're here for DL!? (long shot but worth a mention)
Evanescence - No tours lined up until April 2020 AND they're playing Download Festival Japan on March 29 so they'll be close!
Volbeat - No shows lined up between December 1 and June 16th 2020. With a new album out, surely they'd be up for some shows or a festival appearance.
Lacuna Coil - They've released their new album Black Anema and need to play some songs from it at shows, if it's not a festival run they'll definitely do some headline shows
Angels & Airwaves - I'd probably sell a body part at this point to see this band/Tom DeLonge back in Australia again. They said a few months back they're in talks to come down here but nothing has transpired so this is a possibility!
SHVPES - It's about time someone brings these lads to Australia. Frontman Griffin Dickinson (yes, son of Bruce) was here filling in for Loz from While She Sleeps on Architects' Holy Hell Tour, let's see what his real actual band can do for Aussie audiences.
Don Broco - Since they weren't on UNIFY or Good Things, I'm putting them here just because I can.
Bare Bones - As above, their new album fucking rules (our review out now) so they need a place to play some songs from it and since they opened Soundwave Festival in Sydney back in 2015, they're no strangers to the festival scene
Black Veil Brides - Frontman Andy Black was supposed to be on 2019's lineup with his solo act but had to pull out. He may appear on the 2020 lineup with his bandmates in BVB though!?
Crystal Lake - There's a huge demand in Australia for this metalcore act to make it down under. Maybe Download will be the festival to do it!?
Alter Bridge - New album Walk The Sky is out and for the dad rocker fans out there, they could make an appearance just for them.
Shinedown - It's been fucking 10 years since they were last here. Whether you're a fan or not, that's way too long between sets hahaha
Once Human - They were supposed to play their first ever Australian shows in 2018 but that tour was cancelled. Maybe, just maybe, they could reappear on this lineup?
New Predictions
The Offspring and At The Gates - They're playing Download Festival Japan on March 29 alongside In Flames and My Chem and Jimmy Eat World, all of which are on the first DL Australia lineup!

Probable Ruled Outs/Not Appearing
Slipknot - They'll be at Knotfest in Japan on the same dates... sorry gang!
Korn and Anthrax - They're also playing Knotfest in Japan!
The Damned Things - Scott Ian will be in Japan with Anthrax, so that rules them out.
Tool - They're doing a headline tour in Feb 2020 instead!
I Prevail - They'll be playing a show in Glasgow on March 19th
The Darkness - They're playing in Auckland on March 20th and are doing a headline tour through March instead
Jinjer - They're doing an East Coast Tour + playing in Argentina on March 22 so that's a big nope.
Trivium - They're playing Good Things Festival
Pagan - They're breaking up :'(
Devin Townsend - He told us he'll be back in 2021 with a full band tour and he's also playing shows in North America during those dates
The Contortionist and Haken - They'll be supporting Devin Townsend on his North American Tour
Papa Roach and Hollywood Undead - They're playing a show on March 18th in Copenhagen. I doubt that's enough time to get on a plane and get to Australia in time to be refreshed enough to play.
Devildriver - Dez Fafara's wife was diagnosed with cancer recently so he'd be attending to her needs until further notice.
Metallica or Iron Maiden - No chance ever, according to festival promoter Nigel Melder who told us at last year's media launch! Also Iron Maiden are announcing their own tour the day after Download's announcement. More here
Killswitch Engage - They're touring in May with Iron Maiden instead
Ozzy Osbourne - He was supposed to headline 2019 but pulled out due to poor health. I doubt they'd risk trying again just in case + he also finishes his UK Tour on March 16 so he'd need a rest.
Green Day - They are playing in Hong Kong on March 20th
blink-182 - The only way this band will come to Australia is if they do it without Travis Barker again and that's just not the same.
Alexisonfire - Dallas aka City and Colour will be here in April 2020 for his side project's tour. I doubt he'll be learning two different sets for two different bands so don't expect them, but I'm happy to be proven wrong on this one!
Parkway Drive - They're headlining Good Things Fest...
Avenged Sevenfold – They haven’t been to Australia since co-headlining Soundwave back in 2014 (with Green Day) and since then they’ve released their 2016 album The Stage but I'd predict a headline tour over a festival appearance for A7X
Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum and/or Seven Spires - All will be playing shows together in America during the DL dates
Tarja - They'll be in Glasgow playing a show on March 20th
Palaye Royale - They've got a show in France on the 19th.
LORDI - If you wanna see these heroes, you need to be in the Czech Republic on March 22 as they'll be touring through there on that date
Anvil - They're playing the O2 Academy in London on March 21st so that's a big old nope!
Whitesnake or Scorpions - They're doing their own headline East Coast tour a month earlier.
Kvelertak - International shows are booked on those dates.
Pro-Pain, Brick By Brick, Exhale The Demon, Sickbay and The Fatalitees - They're all playing a show together in New York on March 19 so count them out!
Terror and/or Malevolence (and most international bands playing Invasion Fest) - Highly doubtful they'd come back so soon so assume they're not, especially if they're also playing UNIFY.
