Captives Link Up with Ryo Kinoshita for Purrrfect Collab ‘Shadow Cat’

Aussie band Captives have treated our ears by giving us some new music. ‘Shadow Cat’, which features the Japanese king of features Ryo Kinoshita, dropped this week.

The Melbourne/Naarm-based punk rockers have been busy this year. Starting off 2023 with welcoming in new bass player Margaret Noble and touring around Australia, they also featured on the Melbourne bill for US heavyweights He Is Legend and played a multi-show tour in Taiwan. Next month, the band will be releasing a limited edition split 7” vinyl with Sydney/Eora punk-rock band FANGZ, which the latest single will be featured.

Shadow Cat’ kicks off with a grungy bass line that will have you frothing. Once it kicks into the fast-paced verse, the catchiness of this track is undeniable. Building up to a heavy crescendo that you know will have the pit moving and pockets of gang vocals that you can’t fight the urge to yell with. Once Ryo’s vocals come in to accompany a breakdown, it just adds that soul-fulfilling layer of aggression to the track. Captives singer Aaron Damon’s vocals juxtapose perfectly, giving us a fast, furious but also catchy punk track that will be stuck in your head for days.

Also, special mention: the mosh call of ‘kangaroo as fucK’ at the start goes so hard. Let’s make that a thing.
