Those Who Dream Open Up Musically & Emotionally on ‘Apology’

Perth alt-rockers Those Who Dream have stepped up to the plate ready to play and capture attention with their latest self-written and produced musical offering that’s surely going to have you bopping along.

‘Apology’ is a synth-wave journey of ups and downs and Josh and Hazel Meyer take us on a ride with thumping drums and an alluring vocal performance that just hits right from start to finish, and the breakdown section at the end – is evidence enough to not judge a book by it’s cover, until you dive right in…

On the new song, vocalist/guitarist Josh shares:

“When I was writing the lyrics to ‘Apology’, I was going through a pretty big shift in my life; I was finally settling into a mental space where I was much happier and more comfortable in my own skin, and I started reflecting on my past.”

“As a teenager I conditioned myself to perceive happiness as something I wasn’t allowed to feel. It was like every time I started feeling any positive emotion, it would very quickly be shut down by external/internal negativity. And it hurt more every time, because those positive emotions I so rarely feel would be tempted in front of me, only to be ripped away and replaced with a cold reminder that I was not worthy of happiness. It felt like an endless cycle…, so I decided to cut out the middle man. If I intentionally bottled up any good emotions, I would never be let down. My baseline mental state would just always stay depressed.”

“Looking back, I think of all the landmarks of growing up like graduating high school, leavers, social gatherings, buying my first car, traveling with my family etc… that I didn’t experience anywhere near to it’s fullest because of this dark mindset I adopted… so “Apology” is exactly what the name implies – I’m apologising to my past self for not allowing myself to be happy. I can see now that it’s something I don’t “need” or “not-need”… but it’s my right as a human to be able to experience all emotions and respond to them accordingly. Maybe that doesn’t make much sense to some people… but this song makes perfect sense for me. It’s a bit of closure from a darker part of my life.”

Less reading, more believing – that Those Who Dream have a bright future ahead of them…
