Northlane announce new album Alien, drop hard-hitting single ‘Bloodline’ + unveil Australian Tour

The wait is finally over, Northlane are back with the news of their new album Alien being released via UNFD on August 2nd and they’ve unveiled the hard-hitting, personal single ‘Bloodline‘, which is a certified instant banger.

The song in question is reflective of frontman Marcus Bridge‘s upbringing which he explained was decided upon early on in the creating process:

“Bloodline was one of the first songs that came about in the writing process for the album. I wanted to tell the stories of my upbringing and the ups and downs that come along with that.”

He goes on to discuss some of the struggles he faced and how they became the subject matter within the lyrical content of the song, for example, the hard-hitting chorus: “I was raised in hell/I made it out by myself/I was raised to bleed/Bad blood runs wild and free.”  But for Marcus, it was important for him (and the band) to get the story out, as it sets the tone for what fans can expect from the rest of the album:

“It [Bloodline] talks about that idea of growing up in a broken home despite all odds and what might be expected of someone who grows up like that. You are able to be what people think of you and break out of that spiral, that terrible world. For me, that’s a mix of telling the story simple, but then it also tells some parts of my story in really fine detail. For example, the second verse goes into a lot of moments that I actually remember growing up and these landmarks- all these things I remember seeing. This song is a perfect way to sum up the album and also be the first toe in the water to be able to tell this story.”

The new album will feature 11 tracks (including the previously released single ‘Vultures‘) and will mark the band’s 10th Anniversary in the Australian heavy music scene, something they’ve worked hard at and the evidence has shown with two ARIAs under their belt and a #1 album in 2015’s Node. The new release also marks the first album to feature bassist Brendon Padjasek (ex-Structures) who took over the role from Alex Milovc in 2018 (who for those of you playing at home, later popped up in Sydney metalcore outfit Dealer).
