Start Your Engines for the PhaseOne x Polaris MetalStep Hit 'Icarus'
You know everything is right in the world when a new Polaris song drops... but this time around, it's yet another feature for our loving lads from Sydney!
Following on from Jamie Hails & Jake Steinhauser providing their vocals on 'Disdain' - a track taken off Joshua Travis' collab-filled No Rest EP (released back in March), the band has teamed up with renowned producer/DJ PhaseOne - who we last covered when he collaborated with the likes of Marcus Bridge (Northlane), CJ McMahon (Thy Art Is Murder) and Spencer Sotelo (Periphery) way back in 2019.
Today, the entire Polaris fam delivers their all-inclusive collab on 'Icarus' another metalstep (metalcore-meets-dubstep) assault on the senses that showcases both vocalists' clean and unclean abilities surrounded by heavy synth and a phat bass-filled drop that'll bring both techno and metal communities together in unison! Jamie's rap/screaming is uncanny and opens a new world for one of our fav scream bois while Jake's melodic singing offers that beautiful contrast they deliver so well on their own music (and live shows). It'll certainly fill the void between new music for Polaris and bring you back into PhaseOne's world.
When discussing the song's conception, PhaseOne reveals:
"Icarus started off as me just writing a straight metal track for fun, but once it started taking shape, I couldn’t help but add electronic elements... I think the result is awesome as it flows so seamlessly between genres. We got in touch with Polaris, who loved the track and really saw the vision and were excited to work on it with me. They truly smashed the vocal - it was exactly what I had imagined in my head"
Polaris beat man Daniel Furnari also chimed in with his appreciation for the producer's work:
“He's worked with a lot of artists we love, but most importantly he has an incredible knack for combining elements from a whole variety of electronic styles with really killer metal parts, in a way that straddles the line not only between genres, but also between digital and traditional approaches to production. The whole thing is already such a hybrid in its own way, and that makes his music really fun to put ourselves into.”
"Hearing Jamie (Hails, Polaris vocals) and Jake (Steinhauser, Polaris bass/vocals) put their voices over something different was inspiring, and the track came together quickly once we got the momentum going. Lyrically, we found ourselves reflecting on humanity's seemingly endless ambition and self-interest, and failure to recognise or learn from the destructive ramifications of that tendency.”
You know what you gotta do, get that song in your ear holes stat!
