Sugar Spine Returns With New Era Single ‘Hisashi’ feat. CABAL’s Andreas Bjulver

Sugar Spine CABAL

SUGAR SPINE! Gosh, we love our boy Josh Muncke. The (once was) Sydney-sider musician dipped his toe into producing his own music in the scene with Mirror Talk, just last year. The self-made metalcore DIY project included bangers like  ‘Gutter Paint‘ and self-titled gem ‘Mirror Talk‘ and it set Sugar Spine up for big things.

Before the end of last year, Muncke rounded out the debut EP with ‘Throat Full of Ash‘ to really cement his place in the scene and viscerally convey his energy in the heavier and heavier space. Sugar Spine is now based in the Netherlands, with recruitment of new band members and a whole bunch of other exciting stuff underway, including some pretty exciting collaborations that we managed to squeeze out of Muncke.

The first of these collaborations is with no other than our Danish darling Andreas Bjulver of CABAL who we chatted to recently when they were in Australia with Earth Caller (interview here). Anyway, let’s get into the 2023 edition of Sugar Spine. The song is called ‘Hisashi‘ and it might just be his heaviest stuff yet.

Hisashi‘ sees Sugar Spine dive neck deep into survivalist gutturals from the get-go upon immediately heavier metal behind him. Think darker than the earlier stuff; way darker. With instrumental ebbs and flows, the sustained vocals will impede on your consciousness. The different tempos will catch you off guard on the near-five-minute-track, especially when Bjulver so seamlessly appears at the mid-way point adding his deathcore mark. The feature is perfect for this demonic musical exploration and Muncke has this uncanny ability to sport a melodic frontier while reverberating his vocals cords to the nth degree.
