Wall of Sound presents: “2022 YEAR IN REVIEW” – by Ov Sulfur’s Chase Wilson

This year started off slow, as we were busy prepping a single to launch with the announcement of our signing to Century Media Records. It was pretty hard to wait around after a fall of shows with Carnifex, Impending Doom, Enterprise Earth, Bury Your Dead and more.

Fortunately, it was all worth it when we dropped ‘Wide Open‘ and hit the road in support of it with As I Lay Dying, Whitechapel and Shadow of Intent. These were undoubtedly the biggest shows we’d played yet as a band. Immediately after, it was grind time to prep for the studio.

It was stressful but exciting finalizing the songs for our debut album. A huge shout out goes out to our good friend Jerry Dominguez, whose tragic passing inspired the final song we’d write for it: the epic closing track. We love and miss you, man.

From there, it was time to film some videos and get out on tour on the completely sold-out Pain Remains Tour with Lorna Shore, Aborted, Ingested and AngelMaker this October and November. Through the support we received on that run, we managed to surpass 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and have our most successful single launches to date.

The sound of the forthcoming album falls somewhere between the brutality of ‘Stained In Rot‘ and the melodic nature of ‘Death Ov Circumstance‘. We’re stoked to show everyone!

BEST MUSIC VIDEO OF 2022

Weeping Wound – “fromm.here on

This video is visually stunning: plain and simple. From the costume choice and green screen effects, all the way down to killer performance shots of the band, this video was the clear choice for my video of the year pick. The song absolutely rips as well.

FAVOURITE GIG YOU PLAYED THIS YEAR

My favourite gig that we played this year was our set at Chain Reaction in July. The energy was amazing at one of my bucket list venues. We got to play with all of our friends in Left to Suffer, I Declare War and Mouth For War. I’ll remember that one for a while. A very close runner-up has to be the show at The Palladium with Lorna Shore, Aborted, Ingested and Angelmaker. The whole downstairs was sold out, which I believe is around 2,000 people?! That whole tour was a favourite.

BIGGEST WTF OR WHOLESOME MOMENT FOR YOU/YOUR BAND

We have to go with a wholesome moment, and you’ll understand why. A young kid named Greyson had an Ov Sulfur-themed birthday party. It was such an awesome moment for us seeing how stoked he was on having us as his party’s theme: including an Ov Sulfur cake, Ov Sulfur cookies and a guest appearance from Ricky! It was truly an honour.

ANY SNEAK PEEKS OF YOUR 2023 PLANS FOR FANS

We have a few things lined up at the moment, but I can’t really touch on them at the moment. The one thing I will say is to expect way more music from us going into 2023. I’m very excited to share what we’ve been working on with everyone. This is the most proud I’ve been to put out music, so I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks.

BEST ADVICE GOING INTO 2023

Things don’t happen overnight and if you want to become the best version of yourself it takes a lot of time and energy. Don’t quit, keep grinding, and believe in yourself.
