Blackened deathcore giants Ov Sulfur snapped necks last year when they released their Oblivion EP and since then we’ve been eagerly anticipating their next move as a band…
The demonic frontman that is Ricky Hoover last popped up on Left To Suffer‘s br00tal collaborative orgy track ‘D.N.R.‘ alongside Lorna Shore‘s Will Ramos and now we get to hear what he’s been up to behind-the-scenes with his own band on ‘Wide Open‘ – and fair warning, if you’ve chugged your pre-workout, you’ll be sprinting into the next state in no time.
The track opens with an ominous warning with Hoover’s deep gutturals taking us up to yet another demonic scream-filled section, complete with frantic blast beats that’ll have you questioning whether drummer Leviathvn is real, or a machine sent from the future. The cleans during the chorus really take this song from your typical deathcore classic, to a well-rounded combination of the pure talent that this band have to offer. Chase and Matt’s guitars are insane. I have no other words for them but that.
Their talent obviously caught the eyes of Century Media Records who snatched up the band and ‘Wide Open‘ marks their first release with the iconic label. The boys were chuffed with the signing too, revealing:
“We’re beyond excited to join forces with Century Media Records, whose stellar roster speaks for itself. They’ve been at the forefront of every scene, regularly picking up the best each subgenre has to offer right before it really explodes. That they saw promise in us was truly affirming and invigorating, especially after only a year-and-a-bit as a band!
We’re happy that this liminal song will serve as our first release on Century Media, closing the last chapter and ushering in a new one.”
