Ozzy Osbourne & Tony Iommi Close Birmingham Commonwealth Games

Ozzy Osbourne Commonwealth Games

Whether you’re a sports fanatic or not, you’ll probably know that the 22nd Commonwealth Games have just been held in Birmingham. The Games ran from July 28 to August 8. At the opening ceremony Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi performed with saxophonist Soweto Kinch but there was no mention of the closing ceremony performance.

Overnight, footage of the closing ceremony arose and it appears that the Birmingham Games ended in the most heavy metal way possible, as Iommi returned to the stage, this time with surprise guest Ozzy Osbourne by his side. The two performed ‘Paranoid‘ (albeit without bassist Geezer Butler) and left attendees with a mark of what Birmingham should truly be known for.

The performance comes ahead of Osbourne’s big album release for Patient Number Nine, out September 9 via Sony Music which features Osbourne and Iommi’s first ever non-Sabbath collab ‘Degradation Rules
