Woahhhhhhhhh baby!
The Amity Affliction sure know how to set tongues wagging and build anticipation in a short amount of time because they've just dropped a brand new song titled 'Show Me Your God' ahead of their return to the stage for Australian audiences at Good Things Festival this weekend. The new hit follows on from 2021's three-track Somewhere Beyond The Blue EP which was released in December last year.
So, what's it like? Well, there are eruptive blast beats welcoming us into a haunting synth intro with both frontman Joel Birch and clean vocalist Ahren Stringer sharing screaming duties and Joe Longobardi bashing away on the kit like a coked up rabbit. The melodies are pure Amity fun and it wouldn't feel too out of place alongside songs tracks from their mid-career range (e.g. I Bring The Weather With Me to Everyone Loves You... eras). Think 'All I Do Is Sink' meets 'All My Friends Are Dead' and you're close to the overall sound of this one! It shows promise and heaviness we've been pining for with this band!
On the new song, the band shared:
“’Show Me Your God’ is the first song of our first self-produced record. The song is the first in a series of explorations and internal meditations on how our past shapes us and interacts with our various mental struggles in the present, drawing from both personal experience and also the trauma of close friends who have passed away or who have dealt with close loved ones passing away.”’
TAA are masters of their craft and the above-mentioned subject manner; which they do in a way that connects with fans across the entire planet. The band have made a name for themselves as being an entity that's not afraid to discuss mental health - and vicariously raise awareness for organisations such as BeyondBlue, Lifeline, Headspace and Suicide Prevention everywhere they go.

When we caught up with Ahren on the back of 'Like Love''s release in October last year, he mentioned, "We are really enjoying playing the heavier stuff again. Seems our audience is happy with that as well…" and he's not wrong. Ever since 'All My Friends Are Dead' surprised the absolute f**k out of all of us, we have really loved hearing Amity honing in on those heavier elements that made them a household name. And if Joel's recent tweets are anything to go by, this could be the heaviest release the band have dropped in the entirety of their career... and as a Severed Ties fanboy - that makes me moist in anticipation!
