Rolling Coverage: Good Things Fest 2022 Confirms, Clues, Predictions and more…

With the return of international guests to Australia, it’s time to look toward the end of the year at the return of Good Things Festival and the stack of guests who will be embarking on the maiden trip up the East Coast for an epic three days of fun, frothies and throwdowns…

On the big return, organisers say:

It’s been a long wait for fans to revel in some of the best international and local acts from the lands of rock, metal, punk, emo and beyond. But, as they say, good things come to those who wait, and the 2022 edition, following on from 2019’s triumphant event, has made good use of the time cultivating an incredible line-up of acts that will make any alternative loving fan weak at the knees.

Keep this article in mind for any/all questions surrounding the festival including up-to-date lineups, must-know info and more!

Our Predicted/Potential Bands

Here’s the thing, this is the first large scale heavy/alternative touring music festival with international bands on the lineup in two years (not including Full Tilt July, which is smaller in size). Anything is possible with this return, so it’s hard to say who could be included, but given the bands who have released music and haven’t announced any dates for that time, this is who we think could be making it down for the big return…

Angels & Airwaves – New album out and they haven’t been to Australia since Soundwave 2012. 10 year return shows maybe?

Bring Me The Horizon – Surely headliner material by now right?

Spiritbox – They ALMOST made it to Australia in April 2022, but have vowed to make it down asap. After killing it across the US Festival circuit, Australia has to be next (plus headline shows please and thank you Chris O’Brien)

The Devil Wears Prada – When was the last time you saw TDWP in Australia? Exactly! They need to get here soon and with their ZII EP and recently announced 8th studio album Color Decay – it’s time!

Slipknot – We missed out on Sliptallica, so could the mask dotting maniacs make it over for a festival headline slot instead?

Whitechapel – They’ve been lined up to come back for years – will 2022 be the year they come back down under with ALL of that new material under their belts?

Alexisonfire – With a new album on the way (their first in 13 years) surely a trip down under is on the cards too!

Avril Lavigne – She’s going to be in Japan in November and I can foresee Avril doing a mid-arvo crowd puller set like BABYMETAL and The Veronicas did!

Beartooth – Going back to the time I had a chat with Caleb Shomo after their headline show in Brisbane on the 2019 Disease Tour – he said they were looking at coming back for a festival and they weren’t on Download Festival the following year (the one covid took from us) soooo was it Good Things he was hinting at?

Hatebreed – They were supposed to play with Parkway Drive… nuff said!

Neck Deep – I just wanna jump around to ‘Lowlife‘ and ‘When You Know‘ in a live setting.

State Champs – They tweeted they’re keen to come back soon – for this????

Alpha Wolf – Get these boys on an actual touring festival in Australia, please!

Make Them Suffer – Now that WA is opening back up we should be seeing MTS playing shows every other weekend at the local – if not, easing back into the world like they are on festival lineups is a sure way to reintroduce them to the world again!

Onslow – Also, I’d love to see Sean Harmanis and Scott Kay‘s new side-project sprout wings and play some shows up the East Coast and what better way than with Good Things?

Electric Callboy – COME ONNNNNNNNN!!!! (formerly Eskimo Callboy)

Bad Omens – They need to get to Australia just to play ‘ARTIFICIAL SUICIDE‘ for us all.

Good Charlotte – It’s been a hot minute since they played Download Festival and sideshows in 2018…

KoRn – Speaking of Download Festival 2018… that’s the last time we saw this band of nu-metal icons and they’ve sicne dropped TWO albums!

Limp Bizkit – It’s also the last time we saw Daddy Durst down under and they put out a new album last year too!

Wage War – They were last here supporting Polaris in 2020 – Manic has come since then so that has to mean a spot on Good Things?

The Damned Things – With ETID dead (still hurt by this) can Keith Buckley rally up the troops for another return to Australia for The Damned Things?

D.R.U.G.S. – Craig and co. are back and the last (and only) time this band played in Australia was for Counter Revolution in 2011 before they split up and, well, disappeared. The new lineup is tight and their new tracks have all been killer so far!

Panic! At The Disco – It’s been way too long since Brendon Urie graced us with his presence and with new music under his belt, surely it’s time to come back!

Rolo Tomassi – It’s time they make it over here. Covid took their support slot alongside sleepmakeswaves away from us so let’s just get them on a festival.

Probable Ruled Outs/Not Appearing

Kreator, Lamb Of God, Thy Art Is Murder, Dragonforce, Vio-lence – All are playing shows in Germany on December 2.

Clutch – Playing in France on Dec 2

Parkway Drive – They headlined the last outing before the plague hit…

The Darkness – They’re touring Australia in October!

Guns N’ Roses – Playing the MCG the same day as Good Things Sydney!

blink-182 – Yes Travis Barker is flying again (thanks to Kourtney Kardashian) but I don’t see him jumping on a long distance flight yet; soon hopefully!

Pierce The Veil – They’ll be in the UK.

Alter Bridge, Halestorm, Evanescence, Within Temptation, Archspire – All touring Europe at this time (Halestorm doing their own Aussie headliner in January).

Carnifex, Chelsea Grin and Varials – They’ve got a show in Sweden on December 1st

Ghost – Tobias stated he’s not the biggest fan of festivals, so expect a headline tour instead.

Motionless In White and I Prevail – They’re touring Australia together in the middle of the year, I don’t see them coming back so soon.

While She Sleeps and Loathe – Same goes for these two!

Rammstein – I would dare say they’d come back for an actual tour next time, rather than another festival slot.

  1. What about Mastodon or/and Gojira?

  2. Is slipknot not to big to headline?

Not when you look at the past headliners – they could come back hard (especially since we missed that Sliptallica tour) or I could be wrong!
