South African slamming deathcore unit Vulvodynia has risen through the embers of a tumultuous period of internal strife and returned with a triumphant new pinnacle of brutality - Entabin - dropping on the 5th of July via Unique Leader Records. To greet the news of this next stage of their careers, Vulvodynia have also dropped the title track of the upcoming effort to whet the appetite of fans further.
Following last year’s dramatic ousting of their original vocalist, guitarist Lwandile Prusent stepped up to the mic and delivered a hellish performance on the band’s fifth full-length album. Entering into this new era with a renewed vigor, the four-piece’s upcoming LP shows a step forward in maturity, from the highly impressive artwork to the usage of the Xhosa and Zulu languages throughout - the title of the new release itself is Zulu for 'In The Mountain'. Only ‘Mangled & Maimed’ hints at the ultra-violent, gore-fixated early days of the South Africans.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Vulvodynia release without a slew of killer guests; with the Entabeni bolstered with the addition of the vocalists of Signs of the Swarm, Bodysnatcher, and PeelingFlesh.
It's PeelingFlesh frontman Damonteal Harris who lends his nasty gutturals to the massive title tune, with the world-ending slam at the end amongst the biggest in Vulvodynia's back catalogue. Boasting all the band's classic elements - the biting guitar tone, rampaging drums, and harmonic-laced, chromatic slams - this new cut features some of the crew's most immediately grabbing material to date. Hats off to Prusent as well; his range is similar enough to his predecessor that it's not a jarring difference, yet with enough of his own unique flair - especially in his highs - so to be more than just a carbon-copy vocalist.

As if that’s not enough for fiends the brutal stuff, Vulvodynia will return to Australia this September as part of a global tour of relentless momentum. Hitting our shores for the first time in five years, joining them on all dates will be Melbourne goths Mélancolia, who released their debut record HissThroughRottenTeeth on Nuclear Blast Records in 2023, and Perth metalcore group Pincer+, riding off the back of their Hunting God Tapes EP series via Greyscale Records, making for a spectacularly unique trio of brutality not to be missed.
