9 months ago, Dan ‘Sharpy’ Sharp‘s debuted his next beast in the heavy music scene, notably The Bullet Dodger. Like his former outfit Boris The Blade, the band name is a reference to 2000 crime comedy Snatch, based on antagonist Boris Yurinov. It’s been four years now since the final Boris The Blade shows (final gig review here). The deathcore Sunbury boys were ahead of their time and are sorely missed; and if they were before your time, it's best to check out brutal records like The Human Hive and Warpath, winding up with Infernum ahead of their 2019 split.

In April last year, The Bullet Dodger debuted crushing first single ‘The Iceman‘, a stunning and impressive start to Sharpy's next chapter. With a disgustingly heavy approach, it became clear this was going to be one heavy band. With teasing new music a few months later we waited for the next tune, however nothing dropped until now. The Bullet Dodger have shared second single 'Abysmal' which holds the same heaviness as 'The Iceman', however introduces strong hip-hop elements, creating a nu-deathcore beast.'Abysmal' kicks in with similar melodies to 'The Iceman' with Sharpy bellowing gutturals against brutal blast-beats, but less than a minute in he shifts into a full-blown rap verse where the metal briefly disappears leaving you truly guessing where the track will go. With immensely explicit lyrics, The Bullet Dodger reverts back to the catchy guttural section we first heard before interchanging back and forth to that groovy gangster hip-hop approach.Words by Ricky Aarons (@rickysaul90)
