Windwaker Carve Out Their Identity with New Single 'Break The Rules' and Unveil LP 2 Hyperviolence

Since their incredible debut LP Love Language, Windwaker have settled on their current identity and found a sound that defines their new era.

Singles such as ‘Sirens‘, ‘ Left In The Dark‘, and latest EP Enter The Wall are steps on the band’s path as their lineup has evolved. Now they are ready to unveil the next step on their journey. Before they play their first shows abroad on Northlane’s Mirror’s Edge North American Tour, Windwaker have announced their sophomore album Hyperviolence. This album is set to be a showcase of the strength of Windwaker’s current lineup, and we’re treated to a peak with latest single ‘Break The Rules‘.

We’re gradually introduced to the song’s elements piece by piece, almost as if Windwaker are trying to highlight each unique contribution to the track. Glitchy percussions shortly follow catchy guitars and drums before vocalist Liam Guinane raps his way through the first verse. The distorted and chaotic visuals of the video line up perfectly with the masterfully mixed chaos throughout until we’re hit with another awesome sing-a-long chorus. Heavy effects and deeper tuning flow with the heavier vocals on display too. I particularly love the lead-up to a short yet satisfying breakdown.

Windwaker have released a single that nails the hyperpop metalcore sound they’re going for. This fresh genre-mashing single can only mean good things, as we know from experience Windwaker love to mess around and evolve their music in devisivly creative ways. From what we’ve heard so far, you better keep an eye out when Hyperviolence drops on July 12th via Cooking Vinyl Australia and Fearless Records. As they’ve said in the new single, they’re going to break the rules and I’m so down to see what they can come up with.
