Turnstile Make Waves With New Album and Title-Track ‘NEVER ENOUGH’

Like a flower sprouting from a bulb, shedding its leaves to reveal a beautiful array of colours and distinctive petals, Turnstile has emulated this same natural beauty. From pioneering some of the most prolific hardcore sounds, to redefining what a hardcore band can become in their Grammy-nominated 2021 album, GLOW ON, Turnstile has endured one of the most remarkable stylistic shifts ever to be witnessed within the scene. GLOW ON reshaped the band, introducing their music to a larger audience, whilst still honing in on their old signatures that kept prior fans hanging around. After what has felt like an eternity, Turnstile is back; not just with a new single, but with the announcement of a new, glimmering, full-length album of the same name.

‘NEVER ENOUGH’ is a synth-driven collision of feeling and transcension. Finding comfort in Brendan Yates' now ethereal and glistening vocals, the band finds itself constructing an otherworldly soundscape that is lush and light. Of course, it retrieves some of its Turnstile roots when introducing a body-consuming riff and deep, engaging drums within the middle of the track. The track indulges itself in the successes of GLOW ON, with a particular likeness to its predecessor, ‘MYSTERY’. Through this, ‘NEVER ENOUGH’ seems to branch perfectly from the album that saw them shake the scene, almost intriguing me with the thought that this album may act as a sequel or continuation. If not that, one thing is clear; these projects share the same blood, brain, and most of all, heart.

‘NEVER ENOUGH’ once again soothes itself, with the outro embodying the feeling of being in a dream. Everything around you seems real, but something is slightly off. It’s comforting and disturbing all at once. In this sense, I think the band has also perfectly encapsulated this feeling through the visual lenses of Brendan Yates and Pat McCrory, with the creation of a music video that is so utterly beautiful, but pulled straight from the subconscious backrooms.

‘NEVER ENOUGH’ concludes with a delicate and entrancing touch, leaving an open-ended question as to what remains on the other side of this. How will the album progress, and what will we be met with next?

The album, NEVER ENOUGH, will be released on June 6th. As the band’s first full-length album in four years, it is almost underselling the hype when saying that the excitement is utterly palpable. So too, the record marks the first project in the presence of Meg Mills, now formally inducted into the band on guitar!

With so many new developments, it’s truly a great time to be a Turnstile fan!
