The Butterfly Effect Throwback to Earlier Sound with Balladesque 'Visiting Hours'
Now this is a pleasant surprise to wake up to - especially if you're feeling a little nostalgic.
The Butterfly Effect have been slowly reintroducing themselves to us through singles 'Nil By Mouth' and 'So Tired' - both of which saw the band dabbling in new, rock sounds that ventured away from their earlier proggy roots... but now, they're honing in on those early years with the balladesque new single 'Visiting Hours' - which is fast becoming my fav release of the week.
Frontman Clint Boge's haunting delivery harks back to their 2006 album Imago and I'm hearing influences of 'Gone' and 'Reach' throughout. Kurt Goedhart's proggy guitars are on point and Ben Hall's drums take you on a journey that'll do more than invoke memories from this act, but showcase their progression as musicians proving time and time again why they're one of the best at what they do.
Just try and stop yourself from belting out the words to the chorus towards the song's climax - I dare you. Well done Butters, this is a great return to form and I cannot wait to hear what else you've got on your upcoming album IV - out September 2nd.
Catch the band on tour with Thornhill and Caligula's Horse throughout September/October - tickets here!
