The Butterfly Effect Signal Return with New Track 'So Tired'
Brisbane prog icons The Butterfly Effect are back baby and it's a good time to be a fan!
The boys have been hard at work following their comeback off hiatus in 2017 and today we are finally gifted new music in the form of 'So Tired', their first taste of new material since standalone single 'UnBroken' dropped back in 2019 and their last album, 2008's Final Conversation of Kings was our 13 years ago!
'So Tired' kicks off with a heavy rock sound that may catch old fans off guard, but by the time frontman Clint Boge's melodic vocals come in for the chorus, you'll refamiliarise yourself with their sound instantly. Drummer Ben Hall bashes away on the kit like there's no tomorrow and an inviting tambourine playing in the background for the song's climax is absolutely appreciated. While it's a bit of a side-step from their prog-days, I have no doubt in my mind we'll see a return to form with future releases, until then, let's just thank the metal gods the boys are back and wasting no time gaining out attention in the process.
On their latest single, lead guitarist Kurt Goedhart says:
“This song is about excess; this song is about us. We started this band, then before we knew it, it became ‘hold on for your dear lives!’ We were in a cycle of writing, touring, recording, touring - and above all else, we were partying NON-STOP. If you wanna know what it is like to live that life, there is no better explanation than this song."
"This song to me represents an internal battle we will most likely all face at one time in our lives. Depression, anxiety, fear, anger and a sense of hopelessness are all part of that battle. How do you deal with it on a day to day basis? How do you get through it? It can grind us down, leave us empty, with nothing in the ‘tank’. It can be a hell that some of us will struggle with for a long time,” explains Clint Boge. “Finding a temporary comfort can lead to a life long fight, climbing out of a hole dug by us. The grind is real, it’s ground hog day every day and it’s tiring and can cripple even the toughest of us. We have experienced these feelings and have come out the other side. This is that story."
