Mirrors Burst From Beneath The Sand & Tease 2nd Album with New Track ‘Vestige’
It has been a long three-year wait since the globe has heard any new musical orchestration from Victorian melodic metalcore madmen Mirrors, but thankfully on this second-to-last day of Spring, the quartet have risen from their Cold Sanctuary with new single ‘Vestige’.
Showcasing a remarkable progression since their debut album The Ego’s Weight released in 2021, this charismatic composition begins with mystifying electronic flourishes and frontman Patty Goodman’s ethereal angelic vocal entrancement. It is only after his soul-bearing statement: “The pain just won’t go away” that guitarist Tyson Taifer, bassist Jack Mackin and percussionist Rob Brens ignite Mirrors’ ‘Rebirth’ flame, and the world feels at some form of metallic harmony once again.
The track follows an instruction that calls upon the charming Dayseeker, with sonic swirls that the underrated Glasslands captivate their witnesses with; however, these references are only parallels essentially, ‘Vestige’ is undeniably a Mirrors’ artistic adventure.
The enigmatic journey the four-piece takes the spectators on is simply breathtaking and Patty has reached a new level of illustriousness with his captivating croon. At approximately the one-and-a-half-minute mark, the band erupts into a progressive metalcore bombardment that Sweden’s Awake The Dreamer would more-than-likely be envious of; although, just as the audience relishes in this wonderous wave of breakdown brilliance, extraordinarily Mirrors retract that heaviness to open the heavens into an aura of tremendous musical tranquillity.
Fear not, the second tidal wave of bewildering brutality strikes shortly after, and an epileptic fit of energy and adrenaline is amazingly administered to levels that Currents would admire. The single then ebbs-and-flows in explorative excellence, surging between enthralling heaviness and benevolent melodic beauty that has been flawlessly captured by producer Ionei Heckenberg (Ocean Sleeper), and Lance Prenc (Alpha Wolf, Polaris) who handled the mixing and mastering duties.
Patty Goodman does eloquently express the line: “Lit the fuse” in this melodic metalcore voyage and those three words are, in reflection, exactly what Mirrors have accomplished with ‘Vestige’ – their explosive return is here. Watch this space, album number two is on its way.
“We wanted to get something out to the fans who have been so patient with us waiting for new material… Life happens, but now we are as invigorated as ever, writing material for our second album.”
