Holding Absence Return With Belting New Single ‘A Crooked Melody’

Need a fresh dose of Holding Absence in 2023? Lucky for us all, today the Welsh rockers have delivered, and ‘A Crooked Melody’ is everything we could have asked for.

We last heard from Holding Absence when they teamed up with Melbourne metalcore heroes Alpha Wolf for split EP The Lost & The Longing – a record that we described as "potentially the biggest collaboration of the year" – in August last year. Now their upward trajectory continues.

‘A Crooked Melody’ stays true to the band’s melodic foundations tinged with a pop edge, and while this track feels like the perfect follow-up to their 2021 album The Greatest Mistake Of My Life, it does sound like the sharper edge they honed on their Alpha Wolf team-up might be here to stay.  

Frontman Lucas Woodland continues to show off the strength and versatility of his voice, the band carrying the track’s introspective, emotionally-charged lyrics with exactly the energy needed to ensure ‘A Crooked Melody’ is set to become a live singalong favourite. We will be eagerly awaiting whatever is coming next.
