Cover Wars: The Amity Affliction vs. Hellions
Two great Australian bands released cover related material this week, The Amity Affliction put out the music video for their Punk Goes Pop contribution 'Can't Feel My Face' by The Weeknd and Hellions unveiled their 'Jesus of Suburbia' Green Day cover alongside a new version of their banging track '24' featuring hints of Josh Franceschi of You Me At Six... but when it comes to cover wars, there can only be one winner of the grand prize of a big thumbs up from us. So let's get into it...
Hellions
Take group vox to a new level with their cover which is an almost party sing-a-long track guaranteed to get a chant happening from all your boys and best lads in your group. Filled with that signature Dre Faivre rap/singing we know the band for, their rendition of the 2004 future classic (in my opinion) comes up better than the original and offers a new style of post-hardcore class to the iconic song. Hellions are killing it right now and it's sooo good to see them kicking goal after goal.

The Amity Affliction
On the other hand have dabbled in the Punk Goes Pop realm offering their services to cover The Weeknd's cocaine inducing track 'Can't Feel My Face' in what can only be described as an over produced, synth filled no-no for the Brisbane foursome. Clean vocalist Ahren Stringer sounding fairly auto-tuned and almost (to the untrained ear) unrecognisable whilst unclean vocalist Joel Birch barely convinces me he's even interested in the project. When I first saw the boys were featuring on this album I thought, "shit yeah, this is gonna be good" considering their previous covers have all been exceptionally on point. But sadly, I feel this one has missed the target. Maybe I'm too old. If you're still keen on the album, you can pre-order it via Fearless Records/Caroline Australia.

and the winner is...
Hellions
The Sydney locals take out the title this time around. Enjoy their remix of '24' to celebrate.
