Brissie Boys The Brave Bounce Back with ‘Breaking Out’

The last time we caught up with The Brave was what feels like a lifetime ago at UNIFY 2020 (before the world turned to shit) when they took on Tonight Alive in a quiz to determine who was the Best Australian Band between the pair – spoiler alert: The Brave won!

Fast forward four years and the Brissie boys have re-emerged from their hiatus and brought their first taste of new music since the release of 2019’s Aura. And boy was it worth the wait.

Breaking Out‘ is the tune and that’s exactly what the band have done, making up for lost time and reminding us of the sheer talent within this five-piece. Thumping drums and downtuned guitars take us through to frontman Nate Toussaint‘s alluring vocals which progress better and heavier as time ticks on. It’s not long before we’re met with familiar heaviness and ear-piercing riffs that’ll please.

It’s a fantastic return to form and we can’t wait to see it live when the boys support In Hearts Wake on their Regional Tour – through South East QLD – unless something else pops up in between.

On the new song, Nate shares:

“There were a few things happening in my life that were causing me this overwhelming feeling of frustration at the time that ‘Breaking Out’ was being written. As the song started getting fleshed out, I wanted to ensure that feeling was conveyed lyrically. I knew I wanted the song to be quite repetitive, first to get stuck in people’s heads, but also because for me at the time, it was that constant repetition, that Groundhog Day feeling that was wearing me down and burning me out. We’ve all been there and had those days where you just want to say fuck it, I’m out of here! I’m getting off this mouse wheel that is just going round and round, is doing nothing to get me any further and is just slowly wearing me down…I’m breaking out of here.”

If this is the start of a much needed (and wanted) comeback, count us the fuck in!
