Have you arrived for some metalcore heaven? You're at the right place. The return of Currents is so visceral right now and we're here for it. The Connecticut band wound up last year blowing our minds with new singles 'Vengeance' and ‘The Death We Seek‘.
The new era of the band comes after their groundbreaking album The Way It Ends from 2020 which they finally got to play some tracks from in Australia (our review here). We absolutely cannot get enough of these guys so we're pumped that a third single has been birthed, titled 'Remember Me'.
Despite the excitement for new music from these guys, the band recently shared some horrible news that guitarist Ryan Castaldi has been diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma, a non-Hodgkin’s type of cancer and they've set up a GoFundMe for him to help with medical expenses treatments, and living expenses, which you can donate to here. Read the full post below:
We're wishing Castaldi all the very best and encourage anyone reading this to contribute as little as $1 to help with his recovery. With this news, we're going to have to stream Currents' brand new single a zillion times to help these boys out, and we have zero problems doing that. So let's check out 'Remember Me'.
The four-minute release splashes a dose of epic immediately with an oceanic mood and an incremental rumble. The song ascends into a Currents feast, packed with sophisticated intersections of chaos and calm. I'm really enjoying this new era the band's been delivering and cannot wait to hear more.
"Remember Me is a statement to our growing divide between one another," says singer Brian Wille. "The dark side to technology's double-edged-sword is access to a font of information and public discourse, curated to engagement, and skewed to individual interest and world-view. The further we go in, the further we're separated from the middle ground and impartial truths. Over the course of the Internet's existence and the rise of social media empires, we're beginning to fracture our relationships with one another over anything we can fight about, even going as far as to relish in the chaos and division. You can see the exact same event and come out with instant, infinite perspectives across the ideological spectrum; painted on a mass public forum accessible to billions of people. Driven further by algorithms and advertising, poison can spread quickly and have lasting outcomes on how we see each other and the world around us."
The song comes from the band's newly announced album The Death We Seek which is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023 via SharpTone Records.
