Pop Punk Sensations PAPERWEIGHT Emerge with Newest Bop ‘Asteroids! And Where to Find Them’

PAPERWEIGHT have given us an endless amount of infectious pop/punk tracks since their inception mid-2020. Although they’re still an extremely young act with just two live shows under their belt (the most recent being Knight & Day Festival), this four-piece continue to turn heads with each new track that surfaces. This week they’re evolving with one of their best singles yet.

‘Asteroids! And Where To Find Them’ kinda reminds me of one of their earliest singles (‘The Kids on the Ground’) through its undeniably catchy intro that blasts straight into some schmick pop punky riffs this four-piece have seemingly evolved since their debut. They’re quickly emerging as one of our brightest acts in Australian pop punk, and like international heavyweights Neck Deep, State Champs and All Time Low do, PAPERWEIGHT are all about turning that frown into a huge grin with their boppy soundtrack of fun. Vocalist Haris Dillinger and guitarist Luana TG shared with us how their newest release came about:

“‘Asteroids! And Where To Find Them’ was actually the first song written for the new EP. It was written at the height of the second (?) lockdown – even though everything around us was turning to shit, we were trying to remain positive and make the most of each day, which is reflected in the lyrics. It’s basically ‘live, laugh, love’ in song form, haha.”

Honestly, can’t help but to love them anymore than we do, but when a band like PAPERWEIGHT comes along and exceeds everyone’s expections, you just gotta sit the hell up and pay extra attention. The video for ‘Asteroids!’ showcases the band’s youthful edge and love for their favourite movies like Blues Brothers, The Wizard of Oz, Back to the Future and Happy Gilmore. The video shows us how extremely passionate they are to their band and it’s inspiring to watch. Their creative juices seem to overflowing at this point. In the best way, of course. Luana shares:

“PAPERWEIGHT loves a good DIY so the video clip was super fun to make – Haris learnt to create VFX and 3D model JUST for Asteroids, we hired/borrowed costumes, hired a green screen studio, had my bestie Amy do my makeup – my Grandma even makes an appearance, bless.”

I’ve watched the video at least five times so far and, each watch gives me something new to appreciate about it. PAPERWEIGHT are nowhere near slowing down anytime soon. They’re really only just getting started.
