Meet Tom DeLonge’s New Alter-Ego ‘Disco’ in Angels & Airwaves’ Music Video for ‘Losing My Mind’

As we etch closer and closer to the release of Angels & Airwaves’ sixth studio album Lifeforms (out September 24th via Rise Records) the band have dropped yet another song from the record and this one sounds a whole lot different to the previously released stadium rock belters we’ve heard so far… But that’s not the most interesting thing about this release – the music video features a new alter-ego for Tom DeLonge who, believe it or not, is related to his ‘Boomer‘ character from blink-182‘s ‘First Date‘ video which was released almost 20 years ago!

Here’s a little backstory lesson for you – at the start of the ‘First Date‘ video clip, ‘Boomer‘ walks in with his fellow bandmates sharing an anecdotal story about how he ended up “kissing his own brother” before the boys launch into the song. His brother’s name wasn’t mentioned, nor was his appearance ever revealed to fans… until now!

‘Losing My Mind‘ begins and we’re introduced to a character named ‘Disco‘ (yep, that’s ‘Boomer’s brother) who recruits viral TikTok-er Rampage in an attempt to help him get on the app with the promise of high luxuary suites and naked women in Las Vegas! The pair hit the streets, running amok around the city and the end result? Well, that’s just giving it all away… There’s two versions of the video by the way; YouTube friendly edition is at the bottom of the page and the uncensored clip which lives over at angelsandairwaves.com!

Back to the song itself and we’re seeing AvA head into new disco-y themed territory on this one, but it’s Tom’s vocal twang that really emphasize you’re listening to an Angels & Airwaves track. By the time the chorus opens up it’s going to be hard to stop yourself from belting out the words. For the hardcore fans like myself, it comes across like an upbeat version of ‘Letters To God, Part II‘ from 2010’s Love album with a continuation of the overall sound we heard on 2014’s The Dream Walker. It took me about two spins before I was officially hooked and now I can’t stop myself from listening.

Now, with half of the abum’s tracks released as singles (including the previously dropped ‘Kiss & Tell‘, ‘Rebel Girl‘, ‘Euphoria‘ and ‘Restless Souls‘), we can kinda get an idea of what we’re going to hear once Lifeforms is released. But with Tom and co. being as unpredicatable as they’ve always been, who knows what the rest of the forthcoming release will truly sound like until it’s invading our earholes.
