Between You And Me Are Back with Their First Song in 2 Years, ‘supervillain’

Topping our list of Australian pop punk bands to watch this year were Melbourne five-piece Between You and Me, and they made the top spot for good reason. The guys signed to Hopeless Records early on in their career and dropped their incredibly fun and energetic debut album, Everything is Temporary which has had made many rounds in terms of touring overseas and getting stuck at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Recording the band’s follow up to this has proved quite the challenge for the guys though, given their plans to record in Canada were quickly overturned by international borders closing and an ongoing pandemic.

However never fear, life has a way of working itself out for everyone and even for Between You and Me. This five piece are more than ready to unleash their new era for you, beginning with the iridescent punk anthem, ‘supervillain’. At first listen, this brand new track doesn’t even sound like Between You and Me. On the surface, it feels like the challenges that this band have overcome recently has seen them turn a new leaf in their career. Bassist James “Bassy” Karagiozis shared with us how stoked him and the rest of BYAM are on finally be able to reveal the band’s new era:

“It feels so good to be putting new music out again. Weird to think though, if it wasn’t for a tour getting cancelled and being stuck in a lockdown this song along with a few others probably would’ve never been written…”

Give ‘supervillain’ a few spins and you’ll soon hear the progression this band have put into it and how it’s still really familiar with their last release, ‘Famous’ way back in 2019. The track slowly builds with a thumping bassline before coming together into a groovy pop melody that kinda makes you wanna dance. Featuring quite the array of musical styles, it’s a pretty edgy new sound for a band who are known for their angsty, unapologetic brand of pop punk.

I don’t know about you, but I am stoked about Between You and Me finally bringing to light their new chapter and I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from camp BYAM in the coming months!
