If you’ve been living under a rock and not keeping up with the Slaves (US) news, allow me to get you up to speed. Back in January, the guys announced frontman Jonny Craig had been “removed from the band” weeks out from their Australian Tour due to his addiction issues which resulted in him choosing “his addiction over the band”. It was an unceremonious way to be given the boot, but the show must go on and Jonny sought after the help he needed while the band continued on without him.
Then, later in the year, they enlisted the help of a former contestant on The Voice US named Matt McAndrew who teamed up with the guys and they released their first song together called ‘Heavier‘.
As expected, fans were a bit hesitant to take on a new singer at first, but over time, they all started to appreciate his style and enthusiasm with the band and the guys were slowly making their way back into the heavy music scene again…
Fast forward to November and Slaves have just released their latest offering ‘Prayers‘, still with Matt on vocals and fans are frothing for the new direction and sound. Think synth-driven melodic-rock (akin to Issues, without the rapping) and you wouldn’t be too far removed from what this direction sounds like. The best news is they’ve got new material on the way which will be released in 2020.
So if you’re jumping on the bandwagon now (or back in) you’ve picked the right time to get involved. Take a listen to the new track below and get keen on the future of Slaves!
