Rolling Coverage: Good Things Fest 2019 Confirms, Clues, Predictions and more…

Good Things Festival 2019 is on the way and will, once again, be the BEST way to wrap up your year. So, to make sure you’re ready for everything that gets thrown at you, we’ve collated all the info you need about the music festival in one handy location including ticketing options, venues and dates + a list of the potential band we think could be on the lineup (at least until the official lineup is announced)…

Dates and Venues

Friday 6 December – Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne
Saturday 7 December – Centennial Park, Sydney
Sunday 8 December – Brisbane Showgrounds, Brisbane

Brisbane and Melbourne’s shows are licensed and all ages 15+ while Sydney is still to be confirmed. Venues and lineup subject to change…

Local Opener Finalists – NEW

The winners of the local band opener comp have been revealed with

Sisters Doll opening Melb, Teeth opening Sydney and Joy in Motion opening Brisbane!

The local finalists for each city have been announced. The following bands will now take part in a showcase, judged by local industry experts who will determine who has won the opportunity to open the festival in their city…

Melbourne

Will see the likes of The City (@TheCityAU), Sisters Doll (@SistersDoll), IRONSTONE (@Ironstoneband) and Lash 78 (@Lash78) battle it out for the opportunity to open the Victorian leg of the festival.

Brisbane

Brisbane we’ll have Babirusa, Shorelines (@ShorelinesAU), Joy in Motion (@joyinmotionband) and Virtues (@virtuesAUS) competing for the top prize for Queensland.

Sydney

We will see Reliqa (@reliqaband), Infinite Illusion (@skitzfinite), Stone Lions and Teeth go head-to-head for the New South Wales position

Replacement Bands

The Butterfly Effect have been announced as Coheed and Cambria‘s replacement after they regretfully had to pull out of the festival. Details here

Our Predicted/Potential Bands

Lamb of God – Chances are they could head back down under as part of their 15th Anniversary Tour of Ashes of the Wake. They were last here in 2016 supporting Slipknot and have released albums under Burn The Priest and Mark Morton‘s solo outing but no Aussie tours on any of those yet…

A Day To Remember – What better way to wrap up 2019 than with a string of Homesick 10th Anniversary performances at the festival. Fans want it. They’re not doing too much so you know, do it ADTR!!! Neil & Josh also revealed they’re going to be coming back to Australia at the end of the year so it’s either for a Big Ass Tour 2.0 or GTF!

Violent Soho – They’ve got a new album on the way and haven’t played a live show in sooooo long. They need to be reintroduced to the live music scene again and Good Things is the best way to do that (until the album tours etc)

Angels & Airwaves – New album on the way, first US tour in 7 years is happening and fans lapped up tickets across the board. They could stop by for a quick visit because we haven’t seen them here since 2012 so keep everything crossed people.

I Prevail – They told us they’ll be back later this year for a tour in November. Nothing has been announced yet so maybe, just maybe, it’s yet another festival appearance + some sideshows!?

Bad Religion – Their new album Age of Unreason was a punk rock fan’s wet dream and surely they’d wanna head back down under and play it for their fans here?

Ice Nine Kills – They’ve never, I repeat NEVER been to Australia. What better way to introduce them to potential (and established) fans than by bringing them down for Good Things Fest, to test the waters and see how many people they pull. It’ll be a lot too because their latest album The Silver Scream was a critically acclaimed metalcore masterpiece. If you’re not familiar with the band, get to know them via our Sounds You Need In Your Ears article here. They also teased on Twitter they were coming to Australia so this pretty much seals their spot right???

Simple Creatures – Since blink-182 probably won’t make it to Australia due to Travis Barker‘s fear of flying, the next best bet is Mark Hoppus‘ side project with Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low making their debut at the festival.

Alkaline Trio – If Mark Hoppus scores some downtime from blink-182 duties, then Matt Skiba can return to his other band and come down under for some shows too, especially with their latest album Is This Thing Cursed? under their belts (our review here)

The Damned Things – Ok, this is part of a trifecta, but Dan Andriano from Alkaline Trio joined The Damned Things for their latest album High Crimes which was released earlier this year (our review here), and if those two bands get a mention in this list, we HAVE to give a spot to the supergroup who were last here as part of Counter Revolution in 2011. Fingers Crossed their return, 8 years later will be on this festival.

Stand Atlantic – Sydney pop punk heroes doing big things on a local and global scale. They’ll wrap up a huge US Tour in October with nothing else planned after just yet… Good Things contenders for sure!

Enter Shikari – They haven’t been to Australia since 2016 and released their latest album The Spark in 2017. They’re long overdue for a tour so chances are it’ll be part of GTF 2019.

Thy Art Is Murder – Yes they already did a headline tour earlier this year, but they were really small venues. I’m kinda hoping they’re on this one because hearing songs from Human Target in a festival setting would be sick. Also, ‘Holy War‘ is playing in the teaser video for the lineup announcement. UNIFY 2019 did something like this with a Thornhill song and they showed up on the lineup. Could be the same thing here!

Asking Alexandria – Yeah, they need to get their arses back down here to play tracks from their latest self-titled album that was released at the end of 2017. Frontman Danny Worsnop is doing a solo acoustic east coast tour alongside Bad Wolves frontman Tommy Vext from December 18th, so maybe, they’re heading to Australia with the band prior? Right?

Bad Wolves – As above, if Asking Alexandria get a mention, so do Bad Wolves who were last here supporting Nickelback in February.

Fever 333 – The guys said they’d be back in Australia later in the year. No tours or support slots have been announced so it could be for Good Things…

Belle Haven – The band said on Twitter before the year is up they’re going to be playing shows in some cool new placed they’ve never played before.. you know where tey haven’t played? Good Things Festival yo!

Falling In Reverse – New album on the way, they were last here for Download Festival 2018… it’s been a hot minute! (Unless they do a headline tour instead).

Rolo Tomassi – It’s about time these hidden gems make it down under (again) to showcase their heavy metal sounds. What better way than an introduction via GTF? Their last album Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It came out last year and surely they have more Australian fans than the staff here at Wall of Sound HQ!?

Parkway Drive – They just wrapped up their European Tour in mid-August and have nothing else lined up show-wise for the rest of the year. They last toured Australia for their Reverence Tour in October 2018 so that’s long enough for another appearance right? I can’t see them doing UNIFY again, however they could do Download Festival instead. I’ll mention them in that rolling coverage too!

Pagan – They played UNIFY Gathering earlier in the year and have been working on some new material in the meantime (as well as dominating the globe). What better way to showcase their new tunes and live show progression than at another music festival to wrap up their stellar year?!

Yours Truly – They’ve been making waves in Australia’s live music scene and even scored a slot at Riot Fest over in the states. What’s another music festival on home soil to add to the list of achievements!?

Wage War – They’ve got nothing lined up show wise between November 2 and January 7th. That’s a huge gap to have, especially as they’re about to drop their new album Pressure.

Dream State – They made their Australia debut at UNIFY Gathering at the start of the year and what better way to wrap up 2019 than with another trip down under, with a few more shows under their belts. Yes, they’re a UNFD artist, but that means nothing when Northlane and Void of Vision played last year’s Good Things Fest…

Whitechapel – Shout out to Jarryd Rodger for reminding me about these guys. They put out their new album The Valley earlier in the year (our review here) and still no Aussie tour or appearances. If they’re not on Good Things Festival, they should be on Download.

Alexisonfire – Shout out to Luke Sutton who reminded me about these guys. They last came to Australia for UNIFY 2017 and sideshows (our Brisbane coverage here). Nothing since. Bt they have released new music and no signs of a new album. A festival slot could be likely.

Probable Ruled Outs/Not Appearing

blink-182/Transplants – Travis Barker refuses to get on a plane down here so we probably won’t see either band heading this way, but if they do, it’ll be without their drumming counterpart…

Devin Townsend – He’ll be playing shows throughout the UK during the Good Things Festival dates…

Rammstein – Something tells me they’d be more suited to Download Festival 2020 if anything… unless they do a headline tour before then!

Tool – Like above, if they don’t announce a headline tour, chances are you’ll see them at Download Festival 2020.

High Tension – They’re only playing three shows this year and they’ve already played two of those…

Ghost – Frontman Tobias Forge says he doesn’t like playing Music Festival, at all, so don’t expect them to come back after performing at Download earlier this year… They’ll also be playing through Europe during the time GTF is on so cross them off your wishful list

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes – They’re heading to Australia for a headline tour in January 2020.

Sum 41 – Cone told us they’ll be back to Australia in 2020, they were here for Download Festival 2019 but assume the next time will be their own tour…

Jinjer – They’re booked out for shows all throughout December and none of them are anywhere near Australia

Cult Of Luna – They’re gonna be in Europe yo!

Slipknot & Metallica – They’re touring Australia together in October. Don’t ecpect them to come back so soon for this…

Motionless In White – They will be touring through Italy, Paris and Europe during the dates Good Things Festival is held… 🙁

Amon Amarth – They’ll be playing through Europe as well during the first half of December

The Amity Affliction – Despite having nothing booked in after their US Tour wraps up in October, I can’t see them doing another East Coast run so soon after their own tour and Heaven and Hell Festival duties…

New Years Day – They’re doing their own headline tour in 2020 instead. Highly doubt they’ll do a festival run when trying to promote those shows.

Incubus – They’re doing their 20 Years of Make Yourself & Beyond Tour in the US at the same time

Le Butcherettes – They’ll be on tour with Incubus at the same time.

Sideshows

Thy Art Is Murder and Gravemind will play shows in Adelaide and Perth after their Good Things Festival run. More info here!
