BABYMETAL unveil new song ‘Starlight’ and announce YUIMETAL’s departure

They’re about to make their debut in Australia as part of the first ever Good Things Festival (lineup here), but sadly they’ll be doing it without one of the originals as BABYMETAL have announced YUIMETAL no longer wishes to be part of the unique Japanese group. In a statement on their website, the band revealed:

YUIMETAL had expressed her desire to return performing with the group in the following months after last December’s performance due health concerns. During her absence, both SU-METAL and MOAMETAL as well as the entire staff team had been preparing for her awaited return. However, YUIMETAL came to a decision that she will not be performing at BABYMETAL WORLD TOUR 2018 in JAPAN and that she will no longer be a part of BABYMETAL. We thank her for all of her contributions and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

Big news for fans who had been left in the dark following YUIMETAL‘s absence in recent times, but what does this hold for the band moving forward? Will this mark the end of their reign? Well, no! It’s the complete opposite as the band will continue with SU-METAL AND MOAMETAL taking the reigns as frontwomen.

YUIMETAL not too long ago released her own statement (which we’ve translated) as:

“I have been absent for a while and I am really sorry for the inconvenience caused to many people. Although I thought over and over, I decided to leave Babymetal this time. I am sorry for the inconvenience to those who support the members of Babymetal. And, for all the fans who are supporting Babymetal, I’m really sorry I made you sad. There was also a strong desire to stand on the stage once again but there is also a feeling that I am still not in perfect condition now, and I also want to advance towards my dreams as Yui Mizuno, which is why I made the decision.”

“Thank you very much for eight years.”

On top of all of that news BABYMETAL have released a new song called ‘Starlight‘ which, despite having the band’s signature Japanese singing and metal backing, also offers up an English section towards the end of it. Its good, but is just missing that little something extra YUIMETAL brought to the table.

Either way, we’ll still get to see the band in its current form at the end of the year and that’s worth waiting for.
