Ice Nine Kills’ new album The Silver Scream is a horror fan’s wet dream

Ice Nine Kills are a band who have been lurking in the shadows for a few years but not many people have jumped on board yet and that needs to change. I first got introduced to the metalcore outfit when Carys Hurcom, one of our writers featured them in our Sounds You Need In Your Ears series where she explained all of their albums are strategically planned and based upon certain themes, for example they’ve released songs about George Orwell’s Animal Farm (‘Nature of The Beast’), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (‘Bloodbath and Beyond’), Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (‘Me, Myself and Hyde’), The Diary of Anne Frank (‘The People In The Attic’), William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist (‘Communication of the Cursed’) just to name a few.

This year, they’ve turned their attention towards horror/slasher flicks with their appropriately named album The Silver Scream and the songs they’ve released so far are catchy as fuck, but also a horror movie fan’s wet dream. The debut single ‘The American Dream‘ is written about A Nightmare on Elm Street with serial killer Freddy Krueger as the main theme and goddamn the tribute to Wes Craven’s classic series is awesome.

Follow up single ‘Thank God It’s Friday‘ turns the attention towards the Friday the 13th series with machete-wielding enthusiast Jason Voorhees getting his time to shine in the spotlight and samples from the movies make the track that perfect soundtrack for every hockey mask wearing fan. But it doesn’t end there, the album will feature tributes to movies like Scream, Saw, Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, IT, Jaws and more

The Silver Scream is out October 5th via Fearless Records/Caroline Australia.
