Ryan Burt has departed The Amity Affliction

Fans have been asking the question since a photo emerged of The Amity Affliction last Halloween which was captioned ‘Happy Halloween from the whole gang…‘ however didn’t include longtime drummer Ryan Burt. Fuel was also added to the fire at UNIFY 2018 when he was yet again absent from their 15 Year Anniversary Set, and now it’s finally been explained why he hasn’t been spotted with the band for some time.

In a statement on their Facebook page revealed Ryan has been struggling with his own mental demons and took time off from the band in 2016 to get help overcoming these struggles. Unfortunately, he’s still not ready to return to the band and they’ve now confirmed his departure but not before thanking him for his services:

“We want to thank Ryan for everything he has contributed to the band over the last nine years and we will make sure he is looked after going forward.

Burt joined the band alongside his brother Chris and was a key member with the years that followed contributing on standout (fan favourite) albums like Severed Ties, Youngbloods and Chasing Ghosts as well as the bands more recent releases. We have loved watching this bloke grow over the years and want to wish him all the best moving forward, it’s been an absolute pleasure (as fans and critics) watching you grow as a musician and human being to become the absolute legend you are today. You will sadly be missed and it definitely won’t feel the same without you there.

Revisit our chat with Amity frontman Joel Birch at Unify where he discusses the band’s next album and how it will differ from what they’ve done in the past right here
