Seems like we’ve been spoiled with some great rock albums this year, putting to bed the notion among more snobbish music nerds (sorry, ‘critics’) that rock is dying. The latest offering comes from Memphis May Fire, dropping eleven tracks of heavy in Remade In Misery.

The drums are huge, the guitars are loud and punchy and frontman Matty Mullins drifts from clean vocals to rock belters to guttural screams with ease. There’s not one song here that you won’t find yourself banging your head to.

The opening track ‘Blood & Water’ hits the ground running and makes its point immediately, with a heavy hook and syncopated main riff, and riff-heavy songs like ‘Bleed Me Dry’ and ‘Death Inside’ gets you banging your head with its opening riff, following it up with one of many big choruses that grace each belter.

Breakdowns are aplenty, courtesy of tracks like ‘Somebody’ and ‘Make Believe,’ while ‘The American Dream’ is a banger of a track with a pumping rock riff and a mosh-friendly chorus.

Make Believe’ builds up into a chorus worthy of being one of the album’s lead singles, as is ‘Only Human’, both tracks polished enough to earn some high rotation on rock radio. The album closer, ‘The Fight Within,’ ties up the album as the only ballad, leaving those listening to it craving more than one listen.

Remade In Misery is a polished rock album, and one that will please older fans, but might also garner Memphis May Fire some new fans from those who love the likes of Northlane and Periphery.
