Windwaker have never been a band to settle for what's expected of them, and their latest release, Enter The Wall, proves no different. Within the four-track EP, the band delve into a world of their own, fusing jarring elements seamlessly, with the aid of the creative prowess, to give birth to something truly unique, overly intoxicating, and something undeniably Windwaker. Upon being in this body of work, ‘The Wall’ becomes one of the stellar features not only of this release, but now within Windwaker’s discography. Dazzling sounds quickly transcend into violent screams, and once again, a suite of technological warfare with jarring noises and fleshed out synth work that rises to the forefront. There also lies a slight homage to the track's nu-metal ancestors, with whirling disc scratches and that signature spunky tone. Trap metal rap verses offer a deep, broody growl into the mic, immediately capturing and forcing a confidence within the track. In the depths of these vocals, there is a constant battle between themself and the fuzz of the track; an expression of the inability to isolate thoughts and become cognitive in delirium.

These verses spiral into deep and primal uncleans, presenting a change that is not halting, but rather hones in on this auditory loss of sanity and decline into the unknown. The outro of ‘The Wall’ is perhaps one of the most capturing elements, with its repeated pleas and admissions dragging out until the song concludes with a bang.https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=V7JlcufVA9yStjWj&v=PwqqVCdg43M&feature=youtu.be‘Villain’, offers Windwaker in a more stripped-back fashion compared to the counterparts found within the body of work. Despite this, the track conducts energy with a growing and tantalizing soundscape that lurks in the peripherals- the hefty drums of particular note. The track places a heavy emphasis on LiamGuinane’s cleans, taking to the forefront, both within the delicate nature of the verses, and the more erratic and charged presentation within the chorus. ‘Villain’ holds an energy reminiscent of earlier tracks such as ‘Lucy’ from Love Language, which for me, is a personal favorite. The track is charged with a palpable passion, and an overly expressive Guinane, that puts one of his most connective performances to date outward. Charging towards a swirling breakdown, the song intertwines a delicacy within aggression, possessing the gift of duality and exploring how the same emotions linger within various styles of feeling and presentation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GCF3NzwIGwEnter The Wall sees Windwaker dominate the field once again in terms of creative license, self-confidence and the ability to create capturing and refreshing soundscapes. Unpredictable and heavily layered, the Melbourne outfit continue to transform the entity of metalcore, quickly ripping down the walls, and entering their own. Complimenting previous release singles 'SIRENS' and 'Fractured State of Mind', this new release of music finds the Aussie core upcomers continuing with their confident stride through the scene. Do NOT miss their energetic set at Knotfest next week.
