To say Northlane had a massive year would be an understatement and a half. From touring Australia on Knotfest's inaugural run and UNIFY: Off The Record, to dominating overseas stages on the EPIC North American Monsters of Oz spectacle; they're setting the foundations for what is shaping up to be another massive year in 2024.Our first taste of their new music arrived with 'Dante' and whispers tell us that there's plenty more on the way, with legendary producer WillPutney behind the scenes, we can only assume just how wild next year will be for the band. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, we grabbed drummer NicPetersen for a chat about the year that was, the music he vibed with and the Holy Shit moment that left an impact on him in our next #WoSYearInReview...

FAV AUSTRALIAN ACT YOU CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF RIGHT NOW?

The one and only Aussie band that I cannot stop listening to EVER is Karnivool. They are a never-ending source of inspiration.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18SUFbABxNQ

BEST GIG YOU PLAYED THIS YEAR AND WHY?

Knotfest Sydney. Knotfest Australia was insane in general, but I’ll never forget our set in Sydney, it started pouring down with rain as soon as we started. I thought it may have deterred the crowd but it seemed to just stir everyone into an absolute frenzy. The vibe was incredible, full-blown godlike moment. As soon as we finished, the rain cleared and didn’t return for the rest of the day.https://www.instagram.com/p/CqNeA6fLVmq/?img_index=7

BIGGEST HOLY SHIT MOMENT FOR YOU THIS YEAR?

There were multiple, one that sticks out in my mind is when we were recording in New Jersey, we were lucky enough to have a massive National Park behind the studio. Every day we’d go for walks through the beautiful woods where deer would graze freely. It was amazing. One day I went for a walk by myself, and stumbled across a family of brown bears… a mother and two cubs. I almost had a heart attack. Luckily they didn’t see me and I was able to back away safely, but let’s just say it was most certainly a HOLY SHIT moment.

ANY SNEAK PEEKS OF INBOUND PLANS NEXT YEAR?

Well, I can’t say much, but we’ll be releasing some of our most expressive music to date and touring it worldwide. If that’s not something to get excited about, I dunno what is!https://www.instagram.com/p/CxJvvrjyApM/?img_index=1

BEST ADVICE GOING INTO 2024?

I think the simplest most widely applicable advice I can give to anyone would be; treat others the way you want to be treated. The world can be a dark place, but a little bit of kindness can brighten someone’s day.Written by Nic Pettersen@nicpettersen
