We first met Melbourne/Naarm metalcore outfit Atriox on the back of premiering their debut song 'Beast' back in February. From there, the boys kept the momentum building by dropping singles 'Done' and 'Move' as they crept closer to the release of their debut EP Dream Forever. Not ones to slow down, they then put out new song 'To Be Gone' less than 6 months later in October and scored a stack of support slots in the process. With the current state of the world eyeing off Australian metalcore bands like never before, it won't be long before Atriox step up and take the heavy scene by storm. Can you say you were there from the beginning? We grabbed clean vocalist/bassist JacobChurchward for a look back at the year and his fav releases with the next #WoSYearInReview!

FAV AUSTRALIAN ACT YOU CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF RIGHT NOW?
Would have to be Redhook, their sound is so exciting and unlike what anyone else is doing at the moment. I can’t get over the energy of their live shows. I caught them at The Corner on the Postcard From a Living Hell tour, and it was amazing. Make sure you get to a Redhook show.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVD9LD31B3Y
BEST GIG YOU PLAYED THIS YEAR AND WHY?
In October we supported a band called Into The Vein for their EP release show at Stay Gold. And, despite the fact that it was a Thursday night, it was such an amazing crowd. And all the bands were phenomenal (shout out to Ironstone and Frontier Season). Was such a wholesome show and made so many new friends.

TELL US A CORE MEMORY FROM A MUSIC FESTIVAL SET
If this counts, back in April, the legends in Priorities and Eleven Live Loud put on an all ages festival called “Home Town Throwdown” in Frankston. We weren’t playing. But the boys in Priorities had me on stage for their cover of ‘The Lines’ by Beartooth. It was so much fun, one of the highlights of my year for sure. P.s. they’re throwing another all ages Festival called “Sanctuary -Your Heavy Haven” on December 9th in Frankston. It’s an absolutely STACKED lineup and it’s going to be so much fun.https://www.instagram.com/p/CzlRS84S_xD/?img_index=2
WHAT WAS THE RECEPTION LIKE FOR YOUR NEW MATERIAL THIS YEAR?
Coming into our first release, we kind of just expected some friends and family to give it the obligatory once over and then not much else. But, the reaction was beyond what we could have possibly hoped for. We had people listening from all around the world, and we’ve received so many kind messages. We were all truly blown away and still are.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLq90J16wmQ
ANY SNEAK PEEKS OF INBOUND PLANS NEXT YEAR?
Currently, we’ve got one song left from the ‘Dream Forever’ sessions that we’re hoping to release in the not too distant future. And we’re writing an EP that we’re hoping to have out in the first half of 2024. And as a local band, I do feel we’re obliged to add “Big things coming soon”
BEST ADVICE GOING INTO 2024?
As cheesy as it sounds; Just have fun. The world can really suck at times, but we all get to share in the fun that we have with music. So, make sure you have fun.Written by Jacob Churchward@jacobchurchward
