‘Unto Death’ Brings DEADNERVE New Life

Well, call them a dirty chuggin’, slamming son-of-a-riff, it's new DEADNERVE baby!
Whenever Brisbane’s hardcore scene is shaken by city-destroying earthquakes, you can sure as hell bet it’s local up and coming, unhinged superstars DEADNERVE making their classic scattered re-emergence with new music.
We’ve seen DEADNERVE resurface in many forms since 2016, spanning countless different styles and influences with each passing member. Since 2023 they’ve returned more complete, durable, and cultivated thanks to the help of current vocalist Terrence Kilner. Stepping up the vocal power far beyond anything the group has had before, creating a solid foundation for their persistence to upgrade and improve their instrumental range/skill.
Premiere comeback single ‘Volatile (WASTE)’ ambushed us from the shadows with fierce, untamed vocals conveying a message of survival against spiralling depression. Feral pentatonic riffs heavily accented with palm mutes and harmonics, key components for self-assured moshpit decimation. Locking the exits with no way in or out, DEADNERVE brought their single to life with a dual string of successful release shows, dragging Deadskin as main supports across Sydney & hometown Brisbane, leaving no remains behind.
‘Unto Death’, a second tracked wave of chaos that latches onto your ears with a single distorted guitar to run the blood in your brain ice cold before other resounding instruments kick in to shatter the illusion, keeping you frozen in place with fear. Heavily accented low chugs flow the rhythm perfectly in a ring out oriented transition to introduce the belting passion of Terrence’s screams. Warming his presence in with ruthless mids and soul draining lows, the pain and desperation in the vocals convey the lyrics of toxicity, and the crippling feeling of loneliness. Forever standing strong with his position in the band, Oliver Welch takes the chorus under his wing with melodically strained cleans giving a bit more kick to a belter of a song that’s already sprinting. “SUFFER WITH ME, UNTIL I CEASE” one final command for their audience to throw down under with the burst round of opens & electronic harmonisers fired from the guitars until no one is left standing.
The path of destruction hasn’t even started yet for the kings of filth, ‘Volatile (WASTE)’ & ‘Unto Death’ was barely a warning of what’s next to come. Their debut EP Unto Death is coming on December 1st and DEADNERVE are ready to show you their best form of themselves yet.
Back already Gentlemen? Good to see you're keeping on the radar. How've things been since the release of 'Volatile (Waste)'?
You know it! Honestly, it's been a wild ride since we last spoke! It's been a massive learning curve to say the least. But we're just getting started!
You've been active live here and there with shows since 'Volatile (Waste)'s single launch. What's been the most chaotic show so far?
Well truthfully our headliner in Sydney has been one that we can't seem to get off our minds. While the event itself wasn't a sell-out, the energy and response we received completely surpassed our expectations!
To our surprise people already knew who we were and had even taken the time to learn the words and we're screaming them out to us. It gave us all goosebumps

The new track 'Unto Death' speaks heavily on the impact loneliness can have on the individual, but there also seem to be a few prominent references to a toxic mindset thrown into the blend judging by the lyrical contents. What was the thought process when creating such a heavy, emotional array of words?
Look, sometimes it just takes looking at yourself in the mirror and reflecting on your own life and trying to take the time to understand what's led you to where are today to understand the meaning of UNTO DEATH.
So I could tell you I've lived the majority of my life in an extremely selfish manner. Trying to gain trust of others purely for my own benefit only to throw them aside once their purpose was served. But never took the time to reflect on the overall loneliness that would follow and would just wallow and play the woe, is me card. A true douche bag Hahaha
So in this case I feel like I've approached this song in a way that applies heavily in relationships. In the video, you can see our subject still heavily fixated on his painting but this time around we introduce a different subject who is clearly being neglected by our main subject who's not taking any time to tend to their loved one.
Which eventually leads to a confrontation where you're displayed that this obsession has taken over their life and nothing will break that focus even if it results in pushing the last remaining loved one away. So what I'm trying to say is, I'm definitely not in any shape or form a saint and truthfully don't ever see myself being able to redeem the wrong doings in my life so the least I can do to try and prevent myself from dwelling on said actions is at least try to express that on a platform that welcomes self-expression in any form.
That being said, if there's anything I can give back to anyone it is that, we all have our ups and downs in life. But the most important thing you can do is reflect and understand the impact it has on others and importantly how it will affect your own life.
Look inward.
And it's the title track of your upcoming EP - what made this song stand out, so much so, that it had to be the namesake of the release?
Well majority of the songs are self-expression pieces that reflect a part of my life or of a perspective I have but the reason for this decision was more to do with how the song sounds more than what it’s about. But with that being said I do believe this song will touch close to home with the majority of our current listeners and new all the same.
Purely due to the fact we've all experienced loneliness and toxicity to some degree so whether you relate to it on the level of being a piece of shit and wanting to take steps to fix that or have experienced the issue on the receiving end.
We can all relate in similar ways
You guys seem to be getting pretty comfy over at Sledgehammer Studios. Have Sean Delander & Dan Field's musical & production knowledge continued to be a great help to the band during the creative stages of the EP?
Oh they've been a great help every step of the way! We are extremely grateful for the amount of time and effort they both have put in while working with us.
It's also honestly just sick to work with the people we all grew up listening to and admired. It's definitely been a privilege to have their insights applied to this EP.
Big ups to Sean and Dan! xoxo
Which tracks off 'Unto Death' are you most looking forward to playing live and why?
THE FIXATION HANDS DOWN! We love that track way too much hahah
It's also got Damien Bigara (Diesect) on guest vox. Interesting! Any chance of an East Coast headline tour after the EP launch to keep the hometown hype going, and who would you bring with you to slay as support?
We have a few cool things lined up come release time but nothing we can divulge just yet
Sorry to be vague :P
Be sure to keep us in the loop with your goings-on, you're definitely a band to keep an eye on. Tell the world what we have to look forward to next.
We plan to bring you more and more tunes and will be definitely coming to a town near you soon enough!
