A couple of weeks ago, The Devil Wears Prada announced the Deluxe edition of Color Decay, out May 5 via Solid State Records. With two new singles ‘Ignorance‘ and ‘Reaching‘, the release will include acoustics, live tracks and remixes.
However, the band have shared something completely different today, and it's not a remix from the Deluxe release. TDWP have collaborated with Canadian DJ Excision and dubstep producer Wooli on a track called 'Reasons'. We love a good crossover single, and we even got you all on April Fools Day last year, suggesting Parkway Drive's Winston McCall and Skrillex got together to make a music baby.
Let's check out what 'Reasons' sounds like. Kicking off like a standard modern TDWP tune with softer melodies and seasoned cleans, it feels like it could almost fit on their upcoming release. However, a minute in, a few foreign tones emerge before the EDM beats rapidly drop with that hyper-bass and eventually dubstep, with Excision and Wooli doing what they do best. TDWP's signature sound is a constant though, with drums and riffs shining throughout the programming.
On the single, Excision comments:
"For this one, we wanted to bring together the heavy bass that our fans love with the raw energy of metal-influenced vocals. It was awesome working with Wooli and The Devil Wears Prada on this cross-genre collab."
"Excision and I originally started this a while ago and knew we needed a band like The Devil Wears Prada on it," says Wooli. "This was my first time working with a band and I am extremely pleased with how this came along. Working with The Devil Wears Prada was an incredible experience. They are insanely talented writers and artists. I'm super excited for this one to come out!"
The Devil Wears Prada elaborate:
"When Excision and Wooli approached us about working together on a song, we were so stoked for the opportunity to dive into uncharted territory for The Devil Wears Prada. It was fun injecting the lyrical and musical flavors from [the 2022 album] Color Decay onto an EDM track, and the emotional and aggressive nature of our sound fit perfectly with their mastery of modern bass music."
Like your crossovers? This one's definitely for you.
