Like Moths To Flames have become one of the most consistently stellar metalcore bands of our generation. Alternating between eras of the disgustingly heavy to the calculated melodic, the four-piece have satiated our breakdown needs for about a decade and a half now.Off the back of a couple scrumptious years of new music in COVID times, namely 2020/2021 with No Eternity In Gold and Pure Like Porcelain, we've had time to recharge the batteries before another year of the moth, which is aptly now upon us. Australia most recently witnessed some of those newer era tracks live on the band's most recent run with Void of Vision, Varials and Annalynn on the Das Ende tour.Alright - new era, two new songs, let's get into it. Like Moths To Flames have re-emerged in 2024 with singles 'Paradigm Trigger' & 'Angels Weep', best streamed back to back. 'Angels Weep' sees the Columbus, Ohio group start eerily as they always do before bursting into a riff-swarming abyss as vocalist Chris Roetter showcases his well-seasoned gutturals. Culminating into a blisteringly heavy chorus absent of cleans, the band double-down on approach, dial up the riffs and whammy into a crescendo that is guaranteed for headbanging.

On 'Angels Weep', Roetter comments:
"The track tells the story of a man who finds himself a place in a dense dark forest. Something about it resembles heaven, but more or less has become a place where God and angels collectively go to die — a place that's desolate and empty, hopeless and lacks any promise of getting better."
As you catch your breath, 'Paradigm Trigger' unforgivingly continues down the brutal path established, albeit with a different rhythm. Like Moths To Flames manage to sound even angrier on this one with the drums really stepping up to meet the guitar's fury. Common sense prevails with what comes up, must come back down and Roetter delivers a brief singalong to meet his demonic screams across the two tracks, though it's not everlasting. The closing section is the marriage between their more modern heavy side with some of their melodic roots.Commenting on 'Paradigm Trigger' he adds:
"This song is about being stuck in a levitative state of sleep paralysis. Including a lot of feelings of anxiety, it's meant to represent the feeling of being stuck. Desperately wanting to run from everything you're falling into but somehow you always end up back in the same place."
