Imminence Orchestrally Nod to Their German Friends With ‘Heaven Shall Burn’

Trelleborg’s symphonic, alt-metalcore quintet Imminence have delivered nothing but the most unique, genre expanding music since they’ve been around, dating 2010. With Eddie Berg’s unmatched violinist mastery and Harald Barrett’s savage Scandinavian metal influence they weld their worlds together to produce philharmonic, ravenous songs contrived of classic orchestral arrangements dominated by bone chilling screams and stabby, rhythmic riffs.
Three parts of an evolving album art has been shared amongst a trilogy of singles over the previous months, beginning with ‘Come Hell or High Water’. Relying on a main foundation of synth, reverb and a hopeless, dreary undertone for a dark setting. Imminence show ever-growing maturity in their music putting ‘Come Hell or High Water’ as their premiere of songs to come.
There’s always a calm before the storm, and second release ‘Desolation’ certainly put that meaning to use. An immediate chaotic force obliterates through the song introduction as explosive drums, piercing chromatic scales and blood freezing screams rain down, soaking into the paws of your skin. The chuggy rhythm of the guitars mixed with the classic stringed lead of the violin flow well as a pair to contrast the uniqueness of the chorus’s tantalising melody. An ethereal thunder cloud of a breakdown serves well to raise an electrifying atmosphere, hurrying the song to its end.
Just when you thought Earth couldn’t take any more of a beating, the Swedish orchestral metalcore outfit decided to show Heaven what arson was with latest single ‘Heaven Shall Burn’, and boy did they turn up the heat. A dramatic vibe of synths and drums lead you by the hand to what you think is safety. You were wrong. Erupting beneath the clouds and tearing open the pearly gates with heart palpitating violin taking the lead, an automatic fire from the constant (drum) kicks, and devil possessing multi-layered screams, Imminence brand 3 words directly into the mind of every living organism with eternal chorus lyrics, ‘Heaven Shall Burn’.
An eerie bridge of violin string plucking with a delicate, vibrato lead, compliment Eddie’s softer tone in his cleaner vocals showcasing his vocal power dynamic. A brutal, guttural ending picks what remains clean off the bones of the song, echoing the previous anger you just witnessed.
With the album art still looking incomplete after three singles, I’m willing to bet there’s more to this story than we know. Regardless, Imminence never disappoint with anything they pump out of the studio. From their Ascendance EP (2010) to Heaven in Hiding LP (2021), they are consistently one upping their own material, over and over again. Hopefully we have a secret album in the mix as ‘Come Hell or High Water’ was released under our noses.
