Swedish metalcore hits differently and Imminence is one of those bands that manages to pull on the heartstrings before brutally whipping us back down to earth with their delicious display of melodic metalcore.Today the band release the title track for their upcoming album The Black, (out April 12th), and following on from their previous single 'Continuum', it's shaping up to be their best record yet. Vocalist EddieBerg draws you in with his alluring delivery before a barrage of heavy sounds consumes your listening experience and we're back to headbanging mode. The ebb and flow of this single is a journey to say the least. Much like Parkway Drive's 'Darker Still' or Spitibox's 'Constance', we're guided into the darkness with enticing beauty before the ground opens up with delectable screams and Imminence's scene-stealing violin section. If heaviness is what you seek, just wait until the commencement of the third act where all hell opens up and we're met with a wall of sound (ha!) that combines screams, blastbeats, thumping drums and that aforementioned arrangement of the strings. It's seductive beauty with a dark twist - and not once did I lose interest throughout.Ahead of the album's release, the band shares,
"Drawing influences across our discography mixed with our Scandinavian roots, you can hear elements from our entire history, yet fueled by an insatiable hunger. The album is probably the most conceptual we've ever created, and I've never been more proud of a body of work before. Continuing on the path as previous releases, the lyrical concepts revolve around mental health and depression. But there's no holding back this time. It's angrier, more desperate, and unhinged, soaking in fear and darkness. We've also allowed ourselves to let the album soar out into unexpected spaces, creating a musical journey with stark contrasts between light and darkness. It's an 'eat-your-heart-out', unapologetic testament to what Imminence has become. This is The Black."
Get to know these names because by the time this year plays out, Imminence's vocalist and violinist EddieBerg, guitarists HaraldBarrett and AlexArnoldsson, drummer PeterHanström and bassist ChristianHöijer will step up to be key players in the next generation of metalcore on a global scale.Pre-save/Steam 'The Black' and see what the fuss is about for yourself.Words by Paul ‘Browny’ Brown@brownypaul
