Grinspoon Announces First New Music in Over A Decade with 'Unknown Pretenders' & New Album Tour
Whether you grew up in the 90s or discovered our national treasures in Grinspoon later in life, we're heading into unprecedented water with the icons announcing their first new music in 12 years - that's a long time to hear Phil swoon! The last time Grinners dropped music, it was for 2012's Black Rabbits record, which spawned the radio hits 'Passerby' and 'Branded' before the boys called it a day and embarked on that long-overdue hiatus. Releasing new music was something that scared the boys as Phil explains when asked about the new record and singles.
“It’s with a curious trepidation but ultimately a feeling of unfulfilled wonderment that we reach into the caverns of our beings for a new journey of recorded endeavours, one which we are proud but tentatively a little scared of releasing”
Now, we get lead single 'UnknownPretenders', commencing with that notable PatDavern guitar riff taking us on a rock 'n rolling road to Jamieson's iconic twang and delivery - with plenty of sing-a-long moments in the chorus. As Kris bashes away on the drums Joe's basslines are felt from start to finish - resulting in a future classic anthem from the 'spoon!
On top of the news of new album whatever, whatever (set for release on August 9th) the band - still consisting of Phil Jamieson, Joe Hansen, Pat Davern and Kristian Hopes - will head out on a 45-date regional tour, giving back to communities who have been left off the touring circuit since their infamous comeback a few years back. Joining them is Aussie rock upcomers Press Club.
“This thing ain’t for the faint hearted, we’re really trying to get to as many places as possible, it kind of harks back to the olden days of touring; 4 guys in a van with some guitars. With the release of new music we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see Grinners, and we’re going back to some venues we haven’t played in 20 years!”
Our venues are suffering out there in the regions so we are bringing the show to them. We can’t wait to see you all!You know what to do...
