It's always a pleasure watching new bands emerge, grow and develop their sound over time. It's these journeys of musical discovery that really help shape the sound of the future of Australian heavy//alternative music and a band that has gone from strength to strength with their releases is Brisbane's Call The Mourning.

Born from the ashes of previous band Lunchtime, the trio first debuted onto the scene with 'Attention' and have since been paving their own path in the local live circuit. Now, the Constance Grafos lead act have re-emerged with their most ambitious sound yet on 'switch'.

Remaining in the alternative rock meets post-grunge realm, the trio have added synth and production SFX to create a larger soundscape that oozes BMTH/Make Them Suffer vibes before Constance's raw vocal delivery catches you off guard, drawing you in with each word sung until bassist Lachie Grumley pulls out some crisp fry screams and rounds out the song as drummer Dominic Willimott bashes away on the kit.

It's a new and fresh take for the band that could propel them into the spotlight of the upcoming heavy community. When quizzed about the song's conception, the band shared with Wall Of Sound:

"Lachie wrote switch after realising a close friend had been taking advantage of him and their relationship behind his back" says Grafos. "The band really resonated with this and we think a lot of people can relate to the same situation of putting someone on a pedestal and then there's a "switch" where you see their ugly side."

"Sonically, we are moving towards integrating other aspects of early 2000s rock and metal in both writing and sounds. More synths, keys and dynamic vocals/screams."

Is this a move in the right direction? Well, we wouldn't be here rambling on like we are, right? It's time to familiarise yourself with one of Brisbane's best-kept secrets, Call The Mourning.
