It'll be four years in September since Burton C. Belldeparted Fear Factory, and fans and critics alike have been eagerly anticipating his next move. Will he join another band OR go out on his own?The latter seems to be the way forward because Burton dropped a brand new solo song called 'ANTI-DROID' with heavy electronic, industrial synth complimenting his aggressive lyrical content that reflects his departure from the iconic metal group. In the chorus, Bell screams, "I severed the machine that no longer served me, I'd rather be dead than a slave to the factory," before hitting the final nail in the coffin with the ominous "never be destroyed by your own creation". It's raw, powerful and shows potential for that cathartic release of anger he's been building up.

When explaining the song, it's a bit of smoke and mirrors with Burton explaining it's about the overall music industry, more so than his time coming to an end with FF.

"'Anti-Droid' is a statement about breaking free. Breaking the bonds of what I felt was a prison in many ways. Not just financially or contractually but creatively, as well. I felt constrained to this format we'd written ourselves into. The 'factory' doesn’t have a capital F. It's the factory of the music industry, a certain form of business, and priorities. Being a slave to an established way of thinking is not really freedom. I am moving forward."

"I'm starting my solo career," Bell says enthusiastically. "I'm working with different producers and co-songwriters, making music that I love, with full control of the music and creative direction."

We're intrigued to see where this song takes Burton, and the collaborators he'll choose to link up with. Personally, I'd love to see him touch base with MickGordon (Orgy/Doom Soundtrack) as I think they'd make some incredible music together. As for FearFactory, they're currently touring Australia with Machine Head and new frontman Milo Silvestro.Words by Paul ‘Browny’ Brown@brownypaul
