Wildheart Announce Sophomore Album with Scorching New Single, ‘Evergreen’
Brisbane/Meanjin metalcore band Wildheart have announced their second album, Searching for Life Beyond Tragedy, will be released November 15. To celebrate they’ve dropped the LP's second single - the poignant ‘Evergreen’.
‘Evergreen’ builds on familiar themes of dispossession and serves as a call-to-arms for leaders who too often fail to act in times of crisis. The lyrics are particularly poignant with the continuing conflict in Palestine and Ukraine. Wildheart have always held the political and personal close to their hearts (pun intended) and these themes will certainly run through the new album.
The band reveal the song’s message isn’t entirely specific to one conflict, but rather the continuing impact of colonialism:
"Whilst this song wasn't specifically written about Gaza, it touches on Capitalism, Western Imperialism and the ongoing rise of the Fascist Right, which, in light of the ongoing events, we want to raise our voices for.
We have a platform, so we need to stand up and keep making our voices heard. We want to leave a better world for those who come after us, and we’ll carry the torch as long as we can so when it’s time to pass it over to the next generation of hardcore bands we’ll be sure we did what we could."
The video features the band jamming out in a black-and-white, though inverts the image for the final breakdown, inserting images of protest.
