Sam Boxold departs MAKEOUT leaving the band's future in jeopardy...
The sad news keeps coming today with MAKEOUT frontman Sam Boxold announcing his departure from the band via Instagram, citing "overwhelming negativity sorrounding (sic) touring and "band life"'. In a lengthy post, Sam revealed the news:
"On december 1st, I had to let my team know that after our 20/20 tour, I would be unable to continue being in MAKEOUT. I have been stuck in a pretty toxic loop for some years trying to do this project...
I will never take for granted the opportunity to flesh out this dream; But this life just isn't for me.
Though this is the end for one chapter, I am going to continue making music, as well as creating art of all kinds. I have my own version of "big plans" that I hope will help me find my voice again..."
The news has shocked fans of the upcoming Rise Records pop punk/rock act which features our very own Australian drummer Scott Eckel (ex-Satellites, I Am Villain) whom we have been following the story of very closely since he first auditioned to join the John Feldmann produced project. The band recorded their debut album The Good Life (our review here) with Feldmann and were helped in studio by Travis Barker and the 5 Seconds of Summer lads.
The future of the band is now in jeopardy after also losing bassist Alex Lofton just prior to their stint on the final cross country Vans Warped Tour last year (our Pomona coverage here) but Scott and guitarist Tyler Young still remain in the band, unsure what they'll do next.

Can the band go on as a two-piece and/or enlist the help of a new frontman/guitarist? Absolutely. We hope this isn't the end of the road for the guys, especially Scott who we personally know worked his arse off for this gig. It's been incredible watching his development and progression as a musician from the band's early days as Trophy Wives, though to where they are now. So here's hoping they (and their management team) put their heads together to come out the other side, reborn, refreshed and ready to take on the world, again.
