Prepare to Face This Consequence with Killswitch Engage’s New Single ‘I Believe’.
Killswitch Engage have dropped their second new single from their next LP, ‘I Believe’. It’s a song about faith and remaining optimistic that things will get better. It’s especially timely given the recent wildfires in California and the return of a Trump presidency.
In an interview with Wall of Sound (coming soon), frontman Jesse Leach told us a bit more about ‘I Believe’:
“It was the one thing I wanted to get across more than anything – you can’t lose faith, you can’t lose hope. The power that we have in our minds, when we manifest things, when we say things are going to be OK.“
“Sometimes you just need to hear it. Like it’s gonna be alright… It’s a call to arms, to come together, push through this [and] we are bound for better days. You go through the darkness and you come out the other side and there is going to be light.”
Leach further elaborated that there were some unusual reference points behind the lyrics:
“I had certain artists echoing in my head. I think of early U2, the Joshua Tree-era, ‘Where the Street Have No Name’, ‘With or Without You’. That soulful, beautiful U2 that was still very much connected to the people… before they became rock stars if you will. Then I think of Bob Marley, ‘Don’t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright’. A message like that. That’s what I want to deliver. I want to instil hope in people’s hearts. I want them to hear somebody tell them ‘It’s gonna be alright, it’s gonna be OK. Things are gonna get better’.”
Jesse had more to say about the “aggressive positivity” of the new album and the influence of punk, hardcore, reggae and 90s hip hop has had on his world view.
Listen to the new song at midnight local time and stay tuned for the music video premiering below.
