No Life Delivers the Goods with ten56. Collab on New Thumper ‘One Hitter’

New Zealand/Aotearoa metalcore quartet No Life welcome French metal masters ten56. to their latest track ‘One Hitter‘.

A cut-throat and aggressive offering from a band with a chip on their shoulder, ‘One Hitter‘ is primed for the mosh pit and pulls no punches. The Kiwi quartet enlist Aaron Matts and Luka Rozaka of nu-metalcore kings ten56. to unleash vehement on those who stand in their way, and teamed up with Buster Odeholm (thrown, Humanity’s Last Breath, Vildjarta) to sharpen the edges on the mix and master.

The track follows on from their May single ‘Obnoxious‘, which featured Emmure vocalist Frankie Palmeri, who jumped at the opportunity to lay down a scathing verse on the heavy-hitter, taking the single from tough to downright crushing. ‘Obnoxious‘ called out ‘deadbeats’ that leech off of others and carry little respect for those around them.

To dive more into the new collab, we grabbed vocalist Connor Dickson to chat about No Life‘s year and future plans…

Congrats on the new single, it’s a killer track! Complimenting its high quality is the phenomenal music video which featured ten56. Was the filming done in Feb while the band was down under for CVLTFEST?

Thanks so much! We’re stoked you like it <3 We’re so pumped to finally have this one out! It’s been a long time coming and this is a track we’re all so immensely proud of! Unfortunately no, but I (Connor) had the privilege of hanging with the ten56 when they were here for CVLTFEST and after a few beers and showing Aaron & Luka the instrumental track we locked it down and for that I am truly grateful!

What is it about Frankie Palmieri and Aaron Matts that you’re gunning for?

Honestly, I just love both Emmure and ten56., so we wanted to do features with artists that we as a band truly admire and look up to! Emmure has been my favourite band since I first heard them when I was like 12 and back when Aaron was in BTM I just frothed the hell out of them too, so it was a given. I just love the energy and steez of both bands and I feel like that shows in how we’ve moulded No Life.

Who else is on your list of vocalist lock down for a guestie?

It will probably never happen but man I’d farrrking love to get Zack de la Rocha on a track haha but as far as something being more achievable I know we would love to get our fellow kiwi VANA on a track! She absolutely rips and is crushing it at the moment.

No Life are breathing fresh life into the next nu deathcore genre with these recent singles. Is the plan to become the nu deathcore giants of Oceania?

Why thank you! That’s such a sick compliment! That would be rad, so yeah lets run with that! haha

I’d imagine that Buster Odeholm is an extremely busy man following the enormous success of his bands thrown, Vildjarta and Humanity’s Last Breath. How did you link up with him for the mix and master of this new song?

He’s such a cool guy and hella laid back, he’s an engineer/producer that all of us have wanted to work with even prior to us starting No Life, so I got on the email “punish” and fortunately he was keen to work with us!

You’ve been leaving your mark on the Australian scene this year following a bunch of live performances. How do you plan to continue to capitalise on this momentum?

We’ll I’ve recently relocated to Australia, so I’ve just been hustling and trying my best to help get us shows and making connections with some really amazing people in the Australian scene since getting here, so now that we’ve signed on with Obsolete Music we have some real cool stuff planned for the new year and honestly we just don’t see ourselves slowing down, we love this and love expressing ourselves.

Are there talks within the No Life camp in regards to releasing a debut album?

There sure is! We are currently working through pre-pro and all that fun stuff now so you can expect something in the new year at some point all going well! I can say that One Hitter is just the entree.

What’s next for No Life?

Have a cheeky Chrissy holiday then back on the grind, finish the album and play as many shows as possible!
