NEW PARAMORE ALERT! Get 'This is Why' In Your Ears Now!!!
Last week we attempted to decipher Paramore's clues about their epic comeback after 5-years away and today is the day we finally get to hear the next phase of the band - and trust us, it's well worth the wait.
Following on from 2017's emotionally powerful record After Laughter - which saw the band and frontwoman Hayley Williams touching on serious mental health subject manner - the trio consisting of Williams, drummer Zac Farro and guitarist Taylor York return with 'This is Why'.
This is the band's first single in five long years, so what are you waiting for? Scroll down ad listen to 'This is Why' below and get keen for Paramore's brand new album This is Why, out February 10!
Our superfan Heather McNab has tuned 'This is Why' and here's what she had to say. There’s a lot of firsts that come along with this new Paramore era that has been unveiled. For example, it will be the first time since All We Know Is Falling, that the band have titled an album after a song title, as well as this being the first album era that has the same band members for more than one consecutive album. While being on the topic of firsts — for what I feel like the first time in the band's history; the raw, honest lyrics being sung weren’t presented in a way that feels like they’re being made to sound fun and cute.
With more of a funk-toned guitar track from Taylor, which is just as fun as any other Paramore song that you know and love, but it seems to have a similar tone to Hayley’s solo work. Extremely raw and honest and unashamed about it. Having previously said in an interview that her solo work never felt like it belonged as Paramore — however it seems like the band have found the sweet spot and this is a perfect fusion of the two. If this is the trajectory that the whole album will be on, I couldn’t be happier. February 10 can’t come soon enough, if you ask me!
We also noticed there's more in the pipeline for Paramore. If you check out their website, you'll see two more line items after today's single: 10.2 'leave the house' and 11.3 'tonight'. Our bets are a couple more singles in early October and November but watch this space.
“This Is Why was the very last song we wrote for the album. To be honest, I was so tired of writing lyrics but Taylor convinced Zac and I both that we should work on this last idea. What came out of it was the title track for the whole album. It summarizes the plethora of ridiculous emotions, the rollercoaster of being alive in 2022, having survived even just the last 3 or 4 years. You’d think after a global pandemic of fucking biblical proportions and the impending doom of a dying planet, that humans would have found it deep within themselves to be kinder or more empathetic or something.”
