Metal Spin Class is Back in 2021: Ride the Lightning x Bodhi & Ride
Hurray, 2020 is finally over! It was the year that took our gigs away from us; it took away so many great things that we do together as a community, and that included sending Ride the Lightning: Metal Spin Class to a grinding halt with the rest of the gyms and fitness clubs.
As a bit of a refresher, our long time writer Ricky Aarons birthed the idea of Metal Spin Class with the vision of bringing heavy music to contemporary cycle classes in Australia, and revolutionised the limitations of what genres are accepted to be played. It's the opportunity for you to ditch those dance remixes, and ride to metalcore breakdowns.
After getting some momentum in Melbourne over the last couple of years (read about the first class here), making it on Broadsheet, and collaborating with some of our personal favourites like 24Hundred and The Corner Hotel, Metal Spin Class had one last class in March 2020 - just days before the nation experienced the shock of our very first lockdown.
Well, Ricky and Ride the Lightning are done with the doom and gloom of toilet paper scarcity and Zoom catch-ups, and are ready to revive Metal Spin Class - thank you Dan, we've been on the beers, but now we need to work them off after silly season. Metal Spin Class is excited to become even more accessible to Melburnians by partnering with their new home, Victorian studio Bodhi & Ride.
As far as revolutions go (yep, we're sticking with the theme), Bodhi & Ride pride themselves in separating from the notion of regulated spin classes, and identify with the creative freedom of being able to run classes on the bike, their way - just ask them yourself:
"We don’t spin. We RIDE."
There's more to it too, check out how seriously they take their riding.
"And we definitely don’t do mundane. We’ve revolutionised traditional spin and created a world first! Welcome to the Ride Chamber. A dark, hot and steamy studio fitted with high tech bikes and production quality light and sound systems. Our carefully curated playlists will get you moving. Our Master Instructors will keep you motivated. Our Chamber will deliver an experience like no other. See for yourself. Let’s RIDE."
Metal Spin Class are stoked to find a new home, with various options earmarked for the year as Bodhi & Ride boast a massive three studios - Port Melbourne, South Yarra and (take notice of this one) a little laneway called Goldie Place in the Melbourne CBD, where the first session is going to run on Saturday 21 January.
That's right, get ready to hear heavy music LOUD in the Ride Chamber.
As always, places are limited so be sure to tell your mates, and jump onto #MetalSpinClassAU on socials to secure your spot. You can even find a promo code on Instagram to shave off a few bucks.
Let Ricky know what you want to headbang to, and you may just get to hear it in the very carefully curated setlist. The last couple of classes included rides to bands like Wage War, The Amity Affliction, Slipknot, Northlane and a whole lot more.
The first Metal Spin Class of 2021 will kick off @ 11am on Saturday 23 January and runs for 45 minutes.
