Make Them Suffer Unshackle Pure Aggression In New Single ‘Mana God’

When looking at fresh album cycles, there have been none more remarkable than the lead-up to Make Them Suffer’s long-awaited, self-titled album. Song after song, the Perth outfit has flexed their muscles, tensing and bulging greater than the last, and their latest single is no exception. ‘Mana God’ is an exhibition of pure, relentless rage, and a staggering conviction that oozes from the pen to the microphone, embedded in urgency and expectation. If you weren't already convinced that MTS might be in contention for the coveted Album Of The Year title… you may want to think again.

Without hesitation, Make Them Suffer returns to a primal and instinctive sound, honing in heavily upon elements of deathcore, and intertwining them with an electronic flair that has seen their duality become almost signature. Of particular note is vocalist Sean Harmanis’ utterly grotesque performance, seeing him descend to hell, and bring back Hades’ head as a warning. It is more than a track, but a pure display of impassioned delivery to expel a message far greater than one’s own voice can carry.

And that message is important. ‘Mana God’ traverses through the idea of control; the overarching hand of technology, organisations, and governments that puppeteer how we think, respond, act, love and live. It is fitting that, at times, this song almost emulates the feeling of floating through cyber space, caught up in the ones and zeroes.

‘Mana God’ is both an anthem for change and a pleading call to action- one to reconnect with those around us, and tap in to our own primal ways of thinking. As Sean explains;

"There is a fine line to tread when discussing a song like ‘Mana God’ without sounding like a crazed conspiracy theorist. ‘Mana God’ is a song about control. The control that the media can have over our thoughts and views. The control that religious organisations can have over people's lives. The level of control that governments are able to enforce and most importantly the control that we are often held under by our own technological devices and their algorithms.

Most people today would know at least one or many who have been driven to the brink of madness by the echo chamber of their phone or computer. I notice many of these people being shunned, ostracised from their communities and held prisoner by their own confirmation bias, force-fed to them through their phones. I don’t see the people as the issue, rather the devices, for the breakdown of human connection”

Alex Reade’s backing vocals are also not to be ignored in this track, and add a layer of desperation and filth that could not be reproduced. Her additions, thus far, have been beyond memorable. Of course, throughout the guts of the track, ‘Mana God’ holds that signature dance of riffage and drums that even in the darkest moments, sees MTS produce an unmissable groove.

Make Them Suffer’s self-titled album is destined to be world-changing- but if you can’t wait until the 8th of November, press repeat on ‘Mana God’ now (and watch the ever-incredible Ten Of Swords Media at work via the music video)!
