Liam Gallagher....new album, new video. Is it all an Oasis?

English musician, singer, songwriter and all round larrikin, Liam Gallagher is set to release his debut solo album this October entitled, As You Were. In case you missed it, Liam released the first single from the album, three weeks ago, 'Wall of Glass' to rave reviews and has been back in the news of late following his commanding performance as part of the One Love Manchester Concert playing alongside Coldplay's, Chris Martin and also his performance at Glastonbury over the past weekend.

Of course, Oasis, Gallagher's claim to fame, unfortunately died a slow death in 2009 as brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher's long standing, "I hate you/I hate you more" relationship reached a climax with Noel quitting from the band following seven studio albums and countless sold out stadium tours. Whilst Liam attempted to hold onto the remnants of Oasis in the form of Beady Eye, (basically Oasis minus Noel Gallagher), it never quite reached the same heights as the former moniker and let's be honest, very few Oasis fans in Australia would even know this band existed. This, despite releasing two, let's say, 'ordinary' albums.
Still, there can be no denying that Liam Gallagher, at his peak, was and perhaps still is, one of rock's most iconic front men. Even voted 'the greatest of all time' by a 2010 Q Magazine readers poll.
His solo debut, As You Were has been described via the press release as, "exactly what you would have hoped a Liam Gallagher solo album would sound like: the passion for the classic 60s/70s influence, that he’s always had has been updated for the here and now." It sounds promising, with Liam quoted as saying:
“I didn’t want to be reinventing anything or going off on a space jazz odyssey,”
“It’s the Lennon ‘Cold Turkey’ vibe, The Stones, the classics. But done my way, now.”
It will be interesting one way or another whether this album can land Liam Gallagher back into the stadium procession that Oasis were in during their hey day of the '90s and noughties. Brother, Noel Gallagher's, High Flying Birds band has unfortunately remained an underrated commodity on the touring circuit and in sales and whilst Noel lacks the charisma that Liam possesses there can be no denying that Noel's songwriting abilities far exceed his more noisier younger brother.
Will the return of Liam Gallagher as a frontman of substance (not substances) create an Oasis reunion? Only Liam and Noel will know the answer, though judging from their weekly digs at each other for the past few years it would have to be a long shot.
For now, As You Were is available to pre-order with 'Wall Of Glass' provided as an instant download. It will be released on digital (standard and deluxe), CD (standard and jewelcase) and vinyl (standard 12” and limited edition coloured 12” formats). A special boxset will also be available. It compiles a coloured 12” vinyl of the album, an exclusive 7” format of For What It’s Worth, a print designed by Klaus Voorman (the artist behind The Beatles’ ‘Revolver’ album cover) and additional collectors’ items.
